Does intolerance mean you lack smarts or can intelligent people be intolerant? This refers to cultures and natinalities and exculdes all opinions, tastes and so on.
Many debates revolve around religion, an afterlife and science. In most ways, religion and science falls short of explaining the universe. Religion gives dogmatic answers and science shrugs saying it does not know (yet). While I applaud scientific discovery and appreciate the trust in faith, I cannot help but to wonder why we think we can know? The singularity is an interesting theoretical concept and if it ever occured, we would live with a civilation (or something like that) that we cannot grasp or understand. Why then do we assume we can understand the universe in which such a singularoty will occur?
The global economic issues has allowed international news to point fingers at single nationalities. Do you think this has had an influence on people's tolerance toward each other's differences? Has it possibly demonised our differences? Or, if you think tolerance is on the rise, can it date back as far as 9/11.
A South African taxi driver was found guilty of muredering 10 children and attempted murder on 4 others after he ran a railroad crossing to collide with the train.
There is no doubt that it's extremely negligent and that an equal punishment suits the crime. However, is it in order to find him guilty of murder instead of manslaughter?
In a situation where neglect reults in death, people can avoid death. By not taking part in the situation or stepping out, one can avoid death. The situation is set up towards an external end and terminates whether death is the result or not. One can even say, death is best avoided. However, if murder is the plan, the victim cannot avoid death. The situation exists to kill the victim and the situation is only terminated when the victim is dead.
Is it right to then say that extreme neglect constitutes intent to kill?
Here is an article relating to the event
Is it possible that Marx's theories anticipated modern constant capital? If so, did the explosion in the capabilities of machinery (constant capital) erode real profit (which according to Marx can only be derived from variable capital), leaving us in the current mess?
