I used to spend a long time debating on this site, because I saw lots of intelligent posts, and some good interesting debates. Fast forward a year, and all I see are troll posts, bickering, and hateful debates. I debate a lot on DebateIsland, and there are much fewer trolls, and more intelligent posts. Andy created this site with good intentions, and it's annoying to see the trash that's posted here all the time. Could we all please stop with the flame wars and bad debates, and get intelligent conversations started here again?
Does homeschooling affect a child's social skills?
Since the child doesn't go to school, they would have less chances of meeting other people their age and socializing. So is homeschool harmful for the child, or is it totally fine. What are your opinions on homeschool?
DJ and producer, Avicii, was found dead, age 28, in Oman. Some of his famous songs include Levels, Wake Me Up, Hey Brother, Waiting for Love, X You, I Could Be The One and Without You.Avicii is probably my favourite music producer, and I was very sad he had to die at such a young age. What are your thoughts on him?
It's been a long while since we've had any good, stirring debates on here, since most of the new debates are just crap about other users. Why can't we just stop talking about Nomenclature or excon or Brontoraptor or anybody?
While some moderators rarely use the banning function, others use it to ban everyone with a different opinion. People like NowASaint and FromWithin do it all the time. People are allowed different opinions. It is a human right. Moderators shouldn't be able to ban users from their debates.
Brexit has been a major mistake for Britain. It's going to decimate the UK's economy, and is going to be very bad for all the British people living in other EU countries. What is your opinion on Brexit? Can the UK survive it?
Last year, the average US adult spent $419 dollars on Christmas-related items (according to Forbes). Is this too much? Has Christmas become just a springboard for companies and corporations to win serious money?
Both are popular pop-rock bands, with many hit singles. I would have to say that I prefer OneRepublic, because their music sounds a little better, and are more versatile. But Imagine Dragons do have some great songs.
I think Wikipedia is a very useful site, but I've been seeing a few questionable facts here and there. For example, it estimates the size of the Liopleurodon (a prehistoric creature), at 5-7 metres, while Walking with Dinosaurs depicts it at around 25 metres. What would be a better info source? Is there a more trustworthy alternative to Wikipedia on the Internet?
AI (artificial intelligence) is the concept that robots or machines can develop cognitive functions like humans. And while the AI that we have now is quite basic, in a few decades, their intelligence might exceed that of humans. Should AI be viewed as a threat of not?
There has been a lot of controversy over whether to keep the 2nd Amendment law, that allows people to hold and buy guns for self defense. Some people think it protects them from criminals, but others think that it just makes crimes easier to make. What do you think? My opinion is that in many places, guns are necessary to stay safe, especially in cities with high levels of violence. But there should be tighter restrictions on what guns they are allowed to buy, and which people are allowed to buy them.
