I hear a lot of talk about "small government". It sounds good on the surface. However, aren't we shifting power from the government to large corporations complete with power struggles, wars (eg. Pepsi vs. Coke) and propaganda? For example, Apple tells us that we are not allowed to install their operating system on non-Apple computers. Who are they to make the law?
Some recent studies have linked the foreskin to infections, penile cancer, prostate cancer HIV and other diseases. Some doctors are calling to introduce circumsicion for babies. Other people say it is cruel and comparable to female circumsicion (which is obviously wrong). I personally don't think it is as bad as female circumsicion as that is more similar to castration. However, I am unsure of whether it should be performed at birth.
Some legal experts say we should get rid of the jury system when it comes to criminal trials. They say that it wastes money and the time of the jurors. Some jurors have even lost their job when a case dragged on for months. Another argumet given is that with increasingly complex forensic evidence, it is becoming difficult to understand what's going on let alone decide the guilt of the defendant. Some of the solutions involve using a panel of judges, or a couple of judges and some experts. If you vote yes, what do you think would be a good alternative?
As most people know, only men are allowed to become priests in the catholic church. Do you think it's about time that women are allowed to become priests. Australia, for example has a law that prohibits discrimination for job applicants, I don't know the position of the law in the U.S. (if you know please inform me). If you agree with female priests, should the law intervene?
Capitalist democracy is looking more and more like authoritarianism forms of leadership such as fascism/feudalism and communism. Each one becomes a few people controlling the many without a say of the many. In a capitalist "democracy" we end up getting what I like to call a corporatocracy. The corporations control the gov. and the people. I can't stand fascism/communism, but our system is looking more and more like them as corporations get a stranglehold on society.
