What do you think: Micro-chip GPS Tracking Devices
Should Governments embed GPS tracking chips into their citizens? No citizen will be exempt - or should some be exempt (IE US Presidents, Prime Ministers of UK and Canada) ? Alternatively, should only known criminals be chipped? What about immigrants - given a temporary chip, to be excised upon departure.
This is a fascinating topic. The Boston Bombings in the USA would be easier to solve if we had these chips. All those individuals who were near the bombs at any time during the day would be questioned.
I bet you're wondering how would "the watchmen" know if someone removed their chips? The chips would be heat-sensitive. Once removed, the temperature drops (or raises) and an alarm is signalled and run through drivers licenses, health cards - everything The next time the remover is stopped, checks into a hospital, they are intercepted by police, questioned and released or charged and re-chipped.
All immigrants would be chipped at the airport - temporarily. If security can perform bodily searches, security will be able to perform temporary chip implants. All those in the area of the crime (in this case, the bombings) would be questioned. If none are of interest, the obvious answer is foreign terrorism - but with who? That's where standard intelligence protocols come into play. But it would make apprehending suspects much, MUCH easier.
But they would be a MAJOR breach of privacy - illegal beyond doubt and completely unethical. But ethics are completely subjective - some countries support the death penalty, others do not. Some US states support death - others do not. Ethics are not simply bound by nations - they are cultural values, held locally.
Some general for and against topics (not neccessarily to be followed):
"Those with nothing to hide, hide nothing"
"What if the Government abuses this privilege!?"
"Who would watch the watchmen?"
"This would be completely illegal and unethical - what if someone is innocent but in the wrong place at the wrong time?"
Tied Positions: Possible vs. error
There's been a lot of unrest in the scientific community over the true ability of neutrinos to surpass the speed of light. Einstein's theory of relativity (both general and special) states that nothing can surpass the speed of light. Pauli disagreed with this, and noted the possibilities that neutrinos present.
What is your view: have neutrinos surpassed the speed of light, breaking Einstein's theories, or is it merely the experimenters human and mechanical errors?
Winning Position: No
The United Nations, formed in 1945 as an international peace keeping and dialogue organization. However, the UN has become more of an international government in recent years. Should the UN extend their military powers, becoming less of a "peace keeping" organization and more of a force to be reckoned with?
Winning Position: No
"Leviticus 18:22
22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination."
This is an excerpt from the new testament (ESV).
I personally believe to each their own, even if you believe in the Judeo-Christian God. If you do not perceive it as "sinful" then sinful it is not. However, certain countries beleive in punishing homosexuality by-law. Should this be permitted?
Yes or No
Winning Position: Unresolved
Before Humans stumbled into the spotlight of Natures "finest creation", Nature itself selected species for termination. Now, human endeavours (fishing, hunting, oil spills) threaten the very fabric of Nature. Certain species, such as the Dodo bird, Panda bears and white Bengal tigers are all in grave danger. Infact, the Dodo bird has been extinct for a few decades now; and Humans are utterly responsible.
Because we as an "intelligent species" brought this natural imbalance about, should we, with the fullest extent of our technology re-boot the natural population, or shall we stand by as all of nature falls to the incompetence and inconsideration of mankind?
Please, debate.
