There is not a "No" answer. How disappointing. Nothing would lead me to believe that at all.

Jesus never abused His power. Jesus was always God and a perfect God does not abuse His powers.

Did you read any of the scripture around those verses, or did just take the verses as they where without taking into consideration surrounding information?

yet the bible itself shows many cases in which he is

You have taken less then twenty verses out of context from the Bible to say "God is evil" and you haven't taken into account the thousands of verses that tell us He is loving, caring, protecting? Don't read the Bible, unless you plan on trying to understand what it says.

So in other words, Jesus lied.

I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Jesus did not lie. Read this:

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless - Psalms 84: 11

Basically, God will grant you what ever you desire, when you become so close to God, through prayer, reading His Holy Word, and walking with Him. Your desires must be His desires.

Actually, it's nothing at all like speaking to a friend. A friend doesn't ignore you when you need help. If you really need a friend to do something, he or she will do it. An imaginary friend however, is much less reliable, as you've come to accept.

God does not ignore you if there are no walls between the both of you. God has three basic answers to every prayer. Yes, No, Wait. He will rather grant you what you pray for, say no, or have you wait.

Bible is the authoritative word on prayer

The Bible is the authoritative word on life.

Everyone should have the right to get married. Period, thats all there is to it.

In addition, those who post religious arguments will be banned without hesitation and with extreme prejudice.

You post saying "there is no meddling God" And then go on to say religious arguments are not aloud. That, my friend, is not the proper way to go about things.

Braking someone else's promise isn't wrong. If Obama broke his promise then it wrong. Thats like me promising I won't say something and getting angry when my friend says it. Makes no sense ;p

Drugs can destroy people and their families. Making them more available to the public would make things worse.

I think flexibility can be good, but we need to make sure we don't take it to far.

I do think eloquence is dying out, and I am no exception. Some may blame the educational system for the lack of larger vocabulary in people, but I think that its a lack of reading. When we read, we learn new words, and new ways to use words we already know.

This is so true! I can't imagine how anyone could disagree with this quote. Thanks for sharing Joe. I'm so glad others noticed these things as well...

ya had to ruin it didn't ya shame on you ryuukyuzo! hehe :P

that if numerous gradations from a perfect and complex eye to one very imperfect and simple, each grade being useful to its possessor, can be shown to exist; if further, the eye does vary ever so slightly, and the variations be inherited, which is certainly the case"

I'm sorry can you please explain this part of the quote? I just can't seem to get it.

1 point

Well we have no way of knowing if it is infinite or not, but I do believe it did have a beginning (time wise)

1 point

but I found out that honesty is overrated in today's world.

Honesty will never be overrated, maybe not the easiest way out, but definitely best way. So... how do I know if your telling the truth? :P

1 point

Yes they are the same thing. You have no proof the mind and the brain are not one in the same, with lack of evidence I need to assume that they are the same.

And you have yet to prove that they aren't the same, so I will assume that they are not the same...

No, humans made up logic, Socrates or something was one of the first to start it. You have not proven the existance of this god, so I have to assume he does not exist.

I believe everything has been made, we are just discovering them.

That scientific study proved only that the brain stays active a couple of moments after what we generally call time of death. It did not prove in any way that the brain remains active indefinitely.

Do you have evidence of that statement? not saying your wrong, just wondering ;)

0 points

Couldn't I say the same thing?

Google "Evidence of God" and you will find thousands upon thousands of pages of solid evidence.

And Honestly you can find anything on Google.

For instance this search tells us that Elvis is in fact ALIVE!

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie;=UTF-8&q;=Elvis+is+alive

This link tells us that Micheal Jackson isn't dead either...

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q;=Micheal+Jackson+isn't+dead&aq;=f&aqi;=g-s1g-sx1g-msx1&aql;=&oq;=&gs;_rfai=&gs;_upl=12073,25,23,18,121,139,0,22

I don't see a point in arguing, neither of us seem to be getting anywhere when it comes to convincing each other.

There are mounds of evidence from fossils, to witnessing evolution on a microscopic level in labs.

Examples?

And as to Darwin's comment on eyes, when taken in context he was simply admiting the incredible scope of evolution, not that it is not correct.

Darwin was stating that to think the eye has developed over time through evolution, is absurd. In other words "inconsistent with reason or logic or common sense" He was in no way "admitting the incredible scope of evolution"

1 point

The religious have an odd habit of only reading what they want to hear. All the more reason I believe it is quite destructive.

The non-religious have an odd habit of only reading what they want to hear as well ;)

The mind and the brain are the same thing is what I'm saying, so no, not "exactly" at all.

The mind and the brain are not the same thing is what I'm saying, so yes, "exactly".

There is no reason to believe one remains conscious outside of death other than that some really really really want it to be so.

Except for what that Scientific study proved.

It's a simple logic puzzle.

God created logic, it doesn't apply to Him

1 point

Thats a different and unique way of looking at it. Plus 1! :)

1 point

Ok, gotcha. All I was saying was instead of saying something against the people who have opposing/different beliefs as you, give evidence of your side. Or just don't post at all.

There is no requirement (upon me) to provide evidence of "NO AFTERLIFE".

There may not be, but then again if you don't plan on supplying any thoughts about the topic, why post? The reason one should post on one side of a debate is to do just that, debate. This is after all a debate website :)

The clue is in the first word - "NO" !!!!!

I'm not really understanding the clue...

1 point

I love the way you used birth to illustrate our "birth" into after life.

Plus 1! :) (I wish I could push the plus button more, get this post to the top)

Great post!

1 point

I dont understand why those who exclaim their belief in an afterlife are so arrogant they do not see that -THE ABSENCE OF EVIDENCE - is a prime factor.

And I don't understand why those who exclaim their belief in no afterlife say that those who belief in afterlife are arrogant. Don't be talking about others "absence of evidence" unless you, yourself are ready to supply evidence. Debating is about supplying evidence, not criticizing others points.

"only people who can show evidence may reply"

If that where the case, their would be no replies at all. Don't criticize, evidize ;)

I believe that their was a creator, and I also believe that energy and matter cannot be created or destroyed, but not exactly how others believe it.

Genesis 2:1 - "THUS the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them."

The creator (who I believe to be God) created the heavens the earth, and was finished. At that point, when He was finished, energy and matter could no longer be created or destroyed.

The statement that time is infinite is true, but not in the way we define time. We only live on earth for a short period of time, so we measure amounts of time expecting an end to our time here, when in reality if time is infinite then there really is no actual "time" You can't measure something that has no beginning or end. Time is something made by us to keep track of our earthly lives, which have a beginning and end.

Genesis 2:1 "THUS the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them."

The matter than makes up our bodies very well may be in another body after us, but that is just the shell of which our souls live on this earth.

Thats alot of words... I hope I was able to convey my thoughts clearly.

1 point

I'm going to say, we don't know, and probably won't know for awhile, but I'm not going to say it's impossible.

1 point

I would like to say no, but you never know until your put in a situation. Maybe where someone your love is on the line.

2 points

I would argue we are only what is in our minds.

Exactly. Our "selves" are in our minds not brains or bodies.

That a few synapsis continue firing for a moment or so in no way changes the fact that they will eventually stop.

Evidence that consciousness continues after a person's brain has stopped functioning, also comes from near death experiences. The brain is not functioning, while the consciousness is. I said there is evidence that consciousness continues after a person's brain has stopped functioning Not while it is still fighting to stay alive. There is a difference. With that in mind there is no way to say that the conscious stops, and there is no way to say that it keeps living. We can't know, and their is no way to find out scientifically, as the consciousness is unphysical.

"Is god powerful enough to create a rock he himself cannot move"

There is nothing God cannot create, and there is nothing God cannot move.

God dons't go by our laws of physics and laws of nature. Its like people in a 2d world trying to apply 2d physics to a 3d God. It won't work.

1 point

Evolution has been proven to a point more reliable than E=mc^2.

It is only the religious who wish it not to be true, who continually attempt to discredit it.

What makes you think evolution is proven? Evolution, like I said before, is far from proven. It is only the people who wish to push out any ideas of a intelligent designer who attempt to credit it.

To suppose that the eye, with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest possible degree. (Darwin 1872)

1 point

In that case I'm still on the "wait.. what.. no!" side of this debate lol

1 point

You wanna explain what 2E is first lol... sounds kinda cool though

2 points

Not at all. Discoveries like that could have been made with more precautions. I don't think scientific progress is worth some ones life.

1 point

"Not to mention the fact that evolution is proven 100%"

And where do you get that information? Evolution is far from being proven, never mind 100%. Not everything put in your science books can be believed.

2 points

wait, don't ya think "you" is the rest of the people, while "me" is him. So basically everyone who just voted for "me" is voting for him. (including me xD)

Me, mostly because there are more of us/me's than you ={D

Christians and Muslims do not worship the same God. Christians believe in the Holy Bible, while Muslims believe the Qur'an. Tis a diffrence

Frankly I believe that abortion is not an option.

Every Day, worldwide... 115,000 Abortions occur!

42 Million a year.

Even if the abortion is because of rape, I still believe the baby should be put up for adoption. Only 1% of abortions are because of of rape or incest. 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child. Honestly only 7% of abortions happen because of things uncontrolled by the mother.

The last 93% of abortions happen because the baby would be an inconvenience, or just unwanted.

The media will tell you that the following are the leading causes of death in the US:

Heart disease: 631,636

Cancer: 559,888

Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 137,119

Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 124,583

Accidents (unintentional injuries): 121,599

Diabetes: 72,449

Alzheimer's disease: 72,432

Influenza and Pneumonia: 56,326

Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 45,344

Septicemia: 34,234

1.37 Million Abortion... The fact is Heart Disease is not the leading cause of death in america. Abortion is.

I think if you have strong emotions about a topic, you should share then and see what others think. At the same time, one must be careful to watch what they say. The point of sharing your thoughts on a debate website, it to basically have them be contradicted. So share your thoughts, but if someone disagrees keep it an argument, and don't let your strong feelings on the topic move you to insult the person who disagrees. Even if they seem to insult you.

1 point

I didn't feel comfortable with answering on either sides of this debate. I believe God knows all things. If a person seeks truth, or realizes there must be something bigger or better than them (a creator) Then God will make sure that person heres the truth. No matter what culture they live in.

"For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. - Romans 1:20 "

Every man has a chance to believe in God.

Jeremiah 29:13 - "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."

Every man and women has a chance to believe.

Jeremiah 29:13 =

I didn't really know what side to put my opinion on, because I didn't really agree with either. I don't agree with gay's way of life, but that definitely means they should be treated with disrespect or persecution. I think they should be pointed in the right direction, because really marriage and etc. should be between a man and wife. At the same time that does not give people permission to make fun of Gay's.

As far as the first question goes, I haven't totally been able to understand it yet. I'll try to get back to you once it clicks. For the second question: Think of it this way, within our bodies are us. Our personalities or selves if you will... our consciousness. There is something different from the physical you and the conscious you. You can be knocked out and have part of your memory swiped, and never be able to remember the things you forgot. Your not a different person, are you? You can look within someone for ever and never find their ego, or their "self". Published by the journal, Resuscitation, and presented to scientists at the California Institute of Technology in 2001: the year long British study provides evidence that consciousness continues after a person's brain has stopped functioning, and he or she has been declared clinically dead. With that in mind. We have you, and then we have your non-physical self. Our non-physical self is contained in a shell known as our bodies. God is not held into a shell. He (being his "self) is not strapped down to physical properties or laws of nature. Something non-Physical cannot be subjected to physical laws. I hope you can see where I'm coming from. My answer to the third question would be this... If you know something, lets say that your car us blue, then you know you know your car is blue. God knows everything yes. That doesn't mean He can't know He knows everything. I hope I made sense, and was able to answer your questions.

I'm going to say the world would not be a better place without Christians. But when I say that I mean TRUE Christians. Not self righteous, prideful, or "better than you" But those who truly live to Please God and make peace. The Christians that go out and help their community, instead of telling them what their doing wrong. Reaching out to the hurting, instead of convicting them. I think this question should have been worded differently. I'm going to say "Is the world a better place without false Christianity."

1 point

I think we should. Although they didn't take all of the safety precautions necessary, it's not like they did it on purpose, and it's not like their not trying to stop the flow.
