The "mediaflow"? You think that we all feel this way because the media told us to? Wow... that is quite an insult! I just know to treat everyone fairly.

"...bases it's laws off of rationality and not religion."

At least we hope so... and want it to be so... but is it really? I don't think that some people do want this at all!

Yes, the spelling is bad, there should be they're and like is capitalized for some strange reason in the middle of the sentence. This is an example of when you spell things wrong, people can take what you meant to say as some thing totally different!

Yes, Superman is a great example of a caped person who is very handy to have around! We treat him like he is a human, don't we? So yes, all caped people who are handy should be treated no differently than those who don't like the fashion style of capes.

Yes, it should be illegal! "Cell phone distraction causes 2,600 deaths and 330,000 injuries in the United States every year." (And this is 2005 data, I am sure that things are worse now!) That is crazy... and I have seen plenty of people texting while driving, too! This should also be illegal!

I am a scientist and someone who believes in God. Maybe not the way the Bible describes him, as it was written by man and therefore flawed, but I still believe that there is a higher being. We don't have the scientific methods to test for him (or her =)!

Exactly! =) The end point can be an emotion, but the means to that end cannot be decided upon by emotion!

You are correct in saying that Utilitarianism tries to avoid putting emotions in the equation when trying to solve what is right and wrong.

You don't really address any of my questions, Jake. I counter your debate and then you ignore the point and go off on a tangent.

So you say that parents are legally married... ok, so if there is a divorce those people are no longer parents? If there is a death of a parent? You are defining a family in a very narrow sense. Gay sex partners are not what we are talking about here, but gay "people who actually love each other and their children and who stay together."

2 points

What defines a parent? The person who gave an egg and the person who gave the sperm? I have cousins who are adopted and are perfectly normal and healthy, I have those friends I spoke of before who just adopted less than a month ago. These people are all parents regardless of the fact that they did not give birth to these children! This would be no different if 2 gays adapted. I think that being a parent is more about loving and supporting a child than just knocking some woman up! There are thousands of men out there who get a woman pregnant but have nothing to do with the child's life. The way you are defining being a parent this man would be a father... yet has not doing a damn thing other than ejaculate!

I agree that this will have to come in steps. First, gays will get the rights to a civil union, or whatever we will call it, then when people get more used to it, they will call it marriage. People just have to warm up to the idea and realize that the world is not going to go to hell in an immoral hand basket if gays marry each other.

The way the blacks were treated in the 60s was horrible. The way gays are treated now is horrible. I think the difference is that blacks were treated poorly in an outwardly aggressive manner whereas the gays are treated poorly in a more passive aggressive way. There is a saying I have heard for this, "Being killed by a million little cuts." Yes, no one act against the gays as been as bad as some against the blacks, but there have been a lot of very little things that can really hurt a person over time.

You want a 1 year old child in an orphanage to decide? Why not let them vote, drink, smoke, drive and do other things then... please, they are children and not old enough to make such choices! Plus, do you really think that a child would rather stay in an orphanage than be loved by 2 people in a home where they have family... even if that family is 2 men? I have friends (heterosexuals) who just adopted a 2 year old child because they cannot have kids... that child has some issues, but is so happy to no longer be in an orphanage!

I love, love, love the idea of profits going to animals!

You are right, if he still has his skills some team will try to bring him back. This is not the first time that an athlete has done some thing illegal and still played! At the same time, I hope that he won't play and that the fans boo him back onto the bench. In fact, I hope that as a society we had a higher standard for these athletes.

I would give you a ton of points up for that if I could... if people understood that very point more, this world would be a better place! =) We all need to try to understand things from others perspective! ;)

I feel that in today's world Mill's philosophy can be applied to state government. The politicians need to put individual's or special interest groups views on the back burner, and instead focus on the greater good for the most number of people in their states. Our founding father's had this idea in mind when they gave a certain degree of power to the states to rule over their people. In Utah where there is a high number of Mormons, they might have different laws than in another state where there is a high percentage of Jews, for example. In this case the laws should be set up to govern all, but yet at the same time, make the most people happy.

Yes, you are right... no one should rely on the twisted opinions of the media. But I did not understand what you meant until you explained it, so I guess you did not get your point across so matter of fact or as simple as you thought it was.

No, I was opposing Jake... there are so many comments, I think that things got messed up, or I clicked on the wrong thing to oppose.

So you are knocking those of us who reference our facts? For the record, I know about what I am talking about, but for those who want to learn more or for those who don't believe me, I provide a reference... this is a basic concept of a proper debate.

Bradf0rd, while it is noble of you to want to change others, you really cannot... but I love your spirit and drive to have the desire to make the world a better place! You can, and should, try to defend your fellow man, and say some thing when you do hear racist, or sexist, or any other sort of discriminatory remarks. But please, don't feel bad yourself if you cannot change them.

You are 100% right! "...the past is past. We should avoid the same mistakes, but we shouldn't feel responsible, because we aren't."

PS- It's Kirstie (just like Kirstie Alley from TV), but I am very used to people getting my name wrong.

You are right, it will always exist, because people often pass racism onto their children.

So are you really saying that a child would be better off in an orphanage than raised by a homosexual couple? I really don't believe that, Jake...
