The added fact that everyone would know if I gave it up to them is the clincher. Because if you're staying at that job long term the kind gesture literally pays off. From your boss doing your annual reviews to how easy or difficult peers make your job for you that small sacrifice of not taking $1000 can mean good things at work. And depending on what you do, it might even be a good talking point for your resume when you're ready to find another job. But note if the amounts were larger I'd change my answer. If it was $100,000 for me I'd take the money instead. Side: $100 to each person

Yes, that is the big pointer....the fact that others would know and since it's only $1000 vs you having to go there everyday for as long as you work there, it would be very uncomfortable. Of course, if you were leaving the job soon, then I'm sure that would change everything lol. But yes, I agree, due to the social pressures, it might actually do more harm than good if u take the one grand money for yourself. Side: $100 to each person

I would pick this option if their were more than 10 employees. I could make a deal with them that if they collectively give me $1000, I would let them keep the rest. Actually, I could get much more than $1000 if there were many employees and I offered to let them keep only $5 or $10. Side: $100 to each person
