A Call to Ban All Muslim Prayer Within a 40 Mile Radius of the World Trade Center

How close to the WTC is "too" close?

A Community Center, modeled after a YMCA or a Jewish Community Center, to be built 5 city blocks from the edge of the 16-acres site that contained the twin towers at the World Trade Center, is deemed "too close" to that hallowed ground. Why? Open to all and with an interfaith chapel, the Center will also have a Muslim prayer room.

The building to be torn down for the new Center has been used by the Muslim community for prayer for many months now. The Pentagon has a chapel used daily by Muslims for prayer a mere 80 feet from the site of the crash of the airliner into that building on 9/11. The WTC had 9 chapels, one of them an Islamic prayer room.

None-the-less, 5 city blocks from the edge of the 16-acre site is said to be too close. How close to the WTC is "too" close, exactly?

There is a easy and intuitively reasonable way to decide. It is said that on a clear day, the twin towers of the WTC could be seen from 40 miles away. Let's make that the boundary and declare that any site for Muslim prayer within 40 miles of the WTC is too close. No reasonable person would disagree.
