Agnostics vs Atheists. are they really different?
Are atheists and agnostics different?
They are pretty much one and the same, the only difference in my book is being agnostic I truly don't know if there is a creator, being an Atheist there is no God due to lack of evidence, I some what agree but then I must question how much do we really know about the universe. because of that I am agnostic or like to call myself that, but I have on many occasions called myself Atheist just to keep things simple. Another way to look at it is, a A-theist, (quote the letter A) or Anti theist, to be a theist means to believe in a personal God, example the God of the Bible or the God of Abraham, vs a Deist meaning the belief in a creator but not limited to a biblical God, so in a way a Atheist could just mean (I don't believe in a biblical God), that being said I am 100% Atheist and agnostic in terms of a deism. Yes, they are different. Agnosticism is a claim of knowledge. So if you affirm you don't know, you are an agnostic. Atheism is a claim of belief. In this case is about the lack of belief in a god. You can be both because maybe you don't believe in god, but you don't claim certainty about it. The opposite of agnostic is gnostic. Like dadman for example. He actually believes he knows what he is talking about lol. I shift from being atheist and theist all the time. Mostly this is because I don't care much about whether God actually exists. Sometimes I care more about the implications of the existence of a God, other times I care more about having a rigorous epistemology. My bias changes from one side to the other, never quite getting to any of the extremes. The only thing that remains constant is the fact that I ultimately don't care much. I believe that any truths about Gods are unknowable, even in principle. So from personal experience, in the way I understand the terms, there's a lot of difference. not really .... one is just more stupid than the other and they both end up in the same place ..... http://dadmansabode.com/forum/ Christians display the truth .... you reject Jesus ( to whatever degree ) you reject life ... eternal .... http://dadmansabode.com/b/04/040309.mp3 ... come and learn Yes. They signify different concepts (agnosticism: we don't know if God exists or not; atheism: God does not exist) and are generally recognized as being distinguishable from one another by those who utilize them. Of course, there is some ambiguity introduced by the further distinction between soft atheism (i.e. agnosticism) and hard atheism (i.e. atheism). 1

No atheism is not the firm belief that gods don't exist. Atheism is the lack of having beliefs in a god. You can be an atheist and an agnostic at the same time like me and most other atheists. Our position is literally: I don't know if gods exist or not for sure (agnosticism) but I don't believe they do. (Atheism). 1

Not really. If you dont know whether god exists or not and/or believe that that knowledge is unattainable then you are an agnostic but coupled with that is the fact that you dont actively believe in a god so you are by default an atheist. The terms are not by any means mutually exclusive and in most cases they go hand in hand 1
