I don't want my argument to show for either side, but I'll put it here anyways: I don't think anyone should call themselves things like conservative or liberal because it immediately implies what their opinions are on everything, and most people tend to sympathize with some of the points from several of the sides. Labeling yourself as something like this instantly makes people form opinions about you which are probably incorrect. The truth is more important than convenience here, even if you have to explain all of your beliefs. You are neither a conservative or a liberal (same goes for me, and many others), and you shouldn't refer to yourself as either, because people will get the wrong opinion. If people ask, tell them that you don't like to use labels, but are happy to discuss issues on a case by case basis. Hope this helps. :) Side: Liberal

I agree. One of my favorite quotes from Neil deGrasse Tyson is, “The moment when someone attaches you to a philosophy or a movement, then they assign all the baggage and all the rest of the philosophy that goes with it to you. And when you want to have a conversation, they will assert that they already know everything important there is to know about you because of that association. And that's not the way to have a conversation.” Side: Liberal
I think my opinion pretty much matches most of the others on here. You don't need a label. To call yourself Liberal or Conservative can set you up for failure either way. If you say you're conservative but some of your ideas are liberal you are slammed by both sides who can't see beyond their own hands. Don't limit yourself to one side or another, all sides have their good and bad points so be a free thinker. Side: Liberal
Hello M: 30 years ago, I would have agreed with you.. Republicans and Democrats disagreed ONLY on HOW a goal should be achieved.. But, we AGREED on the goal.. The goal, of course, was to build a middle class. But, over the years, the right wing CHANGED their goal.. Today, it's to DESTROY the middle class and make the rich richer.. They don't even HIDE it either.. So, I'm a proud liberal.. Right wingers don't want ANYTHING that I want, and I won't pretend they do.. excon Side: Liberal
Hi there Ex. I think if you know for a fact that you take a stance on a certain side, that's fine. But if you question what you are or where you lean you should keep a label off you until you are ready to plant your flag, as it were. I personally can't say I'm Liberal or Conservative, I would encourage people to not fall into a label and I think a person is perfectly fine if their thinking is more towards one belief than another. I think there is a problem though when people use labels to paint a party or group with a broad brush and discredit what could be good ideas simply because they dislike or hate the other side. Not all Liberals are the same, not all conservatives are the same and no one thinks the same even in their own party. I hope that makes sense. Side: Liberal

Conservatives have been the one opposing LGBT rights since their first inception. To this day, conservatives (specifically religious conservatives) broadly oppose LGBT rights Your alliance with Islam, which is ultra conservative and beyond the pale on these issues makes you in bed with? Ultra conservatism. Thus, you support a group that kills gays in mass. Opposing what you support that is even worse is a contradiction of terms. Side: Conservative
