American cars vs. Japanese Cars

A debate on which car do you like the best

I like Japanese Cars because they last longer than American. American cars can break down pretty fast and when an American car breaks down you might pay thousands for a part of the car. My dad has a 1999 Toyota Corolla and its still in good shape and drives well nothing is wrong with it. My parents also have a 2004 Toyota Sianna and its still in good condition and works fine.

Reliability information isn't out yet for all the new American cars. They have new engines and transmissions that are way more advanced than any Japanese engines. Ford has their new 3.5, 2, and 1.6 Ecoboost engines that give you the power of a V8 or V6, with the fuel economy of a V6 or I4, respectively. Chrysler has their 8-speed automatics available in the 300 and Charger. With all the new technology American cars have, comes better reliability. All the turbo-4s in Japanese cars are less reliable than a naturally aspirated engine. Even if Japanese cars are slightly more reliable than American cars, though not near as dependable, durable, or rugged, it wont be that way for long. Japanese cars are behing in technology now compared to Ford, Chrysler, and even GM. Plus, American cars cost a heck of a lot less to maintain, and you can drive them harder.

The only logical position is Japanese:

Or Option #3:

German Cars. Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, BMW, Volkswagen, etc.

American cars are crap...

Try as I might...and I have tried American made cars, I am pro Japanese cars. My favorite happens to be Honda, but My wife was a Toyota fan. I just don't think that the US automakers have quite the same Fit, Finish and Function as the rest.

Have you seen the fit and finish of the now fiat owned chrysler?Ford? These companies especially ford which has beaten its Japanese counter-part in every class are coming up strong and posing pleasant surprise for the American people.

Actually, American cars are now far better quality than Japanese cars. Fords, Chryslers, and GMs now have excellent overall build quality, and better materials quality. Japanese cars such as the Pilot or Camry are filled with out-dated, cheap, hard-touch plastics, while American cars, such as our Flex and Milan are filled with soft-touch materials and the Flex even has genuine wood on the steering wheel.

As much as I would like to say American cars are of better value, I cannot. The only reason American cars are able to compete with Japanese cars is because of import tariffs levied on them. The Japanese place no tariffs on American cars, because they don't have to. Their cars can compete even without tariffs. Japanese cars are made much more cheaply than American cars, and are just as reliable if not more so. Dollar for dollar, Japanese cars are better.

Japanese cars are stable, can be trusted long terms, use less fuel you want to leave your grand kids a mess on the Earth and simple, understated, yet elegant designs. They;'re more compact, streamlined, and make no fuss. Simple and perfect.

Some of the most fuel efficient vehicles on the road are American. The Ford Fusion is, and has been, the most fuel efficient mid-size sedan on the road, a huge segment. Also, the Ford C-Max gets better MPG than the Prius V, while still putting out over fifty horsepower more, a huge number when talking about under 200-horse vehicles. The Lincoln MKZ is the most fuel efficient luxury vehicle in America, counting all luxury vehicles. Plus, GM made their full-size SUVs, Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade, into hybrids getting over 20 MPG. Did Toyota or Nissan do that? No they didn't.

I've had a japanese 1997 toyota estima in black. It was bought from japan (import) and it had 197000 miles on the clock. Im in the UK! Now it has 397000 and it never broke down. Never been to mechanics. And be aware it was a 2.2 diesel automatic. Normally Unreliable. In Italy we had a downgrade into a little ford fiesta. It's shockingly unreliable. In fact Ford actually means FIX OR REPAIR DAILY. Even though toyota's are more expensive, You don't have a life staying at the mechanics. JAPANESE CARS RULE!

Japanese cars are more reliable, affordable spare parts, spare part availability, and can last long compare to American cars.

Also some of the American cars I don't like. I would rather have a Japanese car that would last for years and not have a American car that would break down in a couple of years

You basically repeated the same thing as the argument above.

I'm biased but,

some of the newer American cars like Ford Focus are supposedly made to be just as reliable as Japanese cars.

American cars have always had more muscle so that's cool.

That said I have a Tiburon. I decided I'm going to try my hardest to give an American car a chance next time.

Any non-bailout vehicle, basically, anything except Chrysler and GM.

For a long time now americans have been creating the best cars in the world, germans are up with us too, we both make fantastic enginesand trans, the japanese have been trying to create and or copy what we have made for example they tried to make the accord just like the touras. Japanese cars also have so many problems, we currently have a 2006 honda accord, biggest mistake EVER, we used to have a 1996 touras, great car great in the snow, reliable etc. The accord however in the first two years of wning it the circuts went, some of the interior lights don't work, the PLASTIC trunk latch broke! Japanese cars are also very unreliable, they make make a decent engine but everything is crap. Most of their cars also have crap cheap interiors, no leather, no wood just fake material.
