Americans can't argue that marriage is a sacramental thing
Given the high rate of divorces, seperations and marriages in the predominantly Christian country you can't say marriage is sacramental.
I always viewed it as a weak argument against homosexual marriage (which Im against)
If Christians want to argue it is sacramental, shouldn't they start acting like it is first?

Marriage is both a religious & a civil agreement between two people. The problem is that too many people in the USA conflate the two, which are inherently separate. Gay marriages don't threaten anyone. VT has had civil unions & gay marriages for over a decade now, and no heteorsexual marriages have been negatively affected at all. Just because there are cases in which people get divorces or marry for the wrong reasons, doesn't mean that a religious marriage isn't inherently from God. Yeah I'm Christian, but I'm also homosexual. I hope that when I get married it will be through a religious ceremony, admittidly that might be a little difficult to find a pastor but that is still my hope. God is within every marriage, and it is only through human interaction that the sacrament of marriage becomes something corrupt, but that is my personal belief and I'm sticking to it.
