Apatheism is the only rational position

God can never be proven or disproven. No-one will ever find out.

So why give a shit about religion? The concept of God is distorted and meaningless, and the same debates over and over solve nothing. Therefore, apatheism is the only rational position.

I think some of you miss the point of the question. It says in the very first line: "The Concept of God can never be proven". Then, you all go off on this intangible search for meaning and truth in the universe, blah, blah, blah.... Can you prove it? No. Will you ever be able to prove it? No. That's the point. The only honest answer is "I don't know how or if the universe was created, I don't know what the hell we're doing here, and I don't know what, if anything, happens to use when we die." To assert anything otherwise, is extrapolate your own emotional bullshit into the mix, based upon lies, myth, prejudice, and fear.

The question still stands - Why give a shit about religion when God cannot be proved or disproved?

I gave a rather pragmatic answer to this question that's completely independent of the truthvalue of any religion or God. Religion has a binding function that unifies society, teaches moral values through the authority of God and stabilizes the society as whole.

Besides, moral truths and philosophical teachings also cannot be proven nor disproven. Should we throw out morality, ethics and metaphysics along with God and religion then?

As long as people crave for ultimate meaning and purpose, religion and philosophy aren't going anywhere. Religion has many practical uses from teaching age old values and unifying the society it is rooted in.

Imagine if I said the same thing about morality. We can't agree on morals either - some people are against abortion, some are for it; some think murder is wrong, some think murder is right as long as you kill infidels, some think murder is just right, some think euthanasia is wrong, some think euthanasia is right, some think we have a right to life and some don't, some think marriage is sacred yet some think marriage is just a contract etc etc etc etc....

Nobody knows what objective morals are, so why give a crap about them? Lets have a world where everyone has their own moral values. Or lets have a world where there is no right and wrong at all. Every man for themselves.

The concept of god is not meaningless, that is the stupidest and lamest defense of a position i have ever heard in my life, if anything, the concept of our modern society is meaningless, truly it is, at least 500 years ago we were actually SEARCHING for the meaning of life, now we just wait a long time to think about it and then we regret not searching in the first place...
