Are Agnostics Cowards?

Admittedly, athiests seem to take more heat than agnostics, personally I'm an agnostic and a spiritualist. If you're unsure on what that means it basically means that one understands that they can't disprove a higher power but that it's also impossible to prove something that has no valid evidence.

Now, there's a lot of talk that taking the middle ground means you just want the benifits of believing in something without actually taking any of the heat should you be wrong. On the flipside, perhaps it is admitting to only that which can be proven.

None the less, nobody came here to read my ramblings. Agnostics, are they cowards or just zen?

Victor Stenger in his book God:The Failed Hypothesis - How Science Shows That God Does Not Exist

applies the scientific method to the Judeo-Christian-Moslem god and exposes the fairytale.

He doesn't discredit all gods; just the crazy bloodthirsty one that causes all the delays at the airport.

Agnostics can no longer use the argument from ignorance(argumentum ad ignorantiam) that absence of evidence is not evidence of of absence. Cowardly agnostism enables religion to continue as the greatest

cause of human misery.

I would not call them cowards as much as I would call them idiots, I think if somebody genuinely does not know enough to say they believe in god than they are an atheist, atheist means not in an organized religion non-theistic, atheistic! The question that reveals your ideology is not do you know if there is a god it is actually do you believe in god?

I think it is idiotic to self describe as "agnostic" because we are all agnostic either you believe or not, let Penn explain

Agnostics Suck!

Yes, they are coward atheists, same as Theism are coward Christians.

According to Mr. Eric Holder, all of America are cowards

I think they have commitment issues. they can't commit to believing in God, but at the same time can't commit to denouncing God entirely. But it's okay, there's hope for agnostics yet.

That or they don't need the help group/brainwashing/cruch of organised religion. If I ever choose to believe in God or stop hating God, its my choice. Not some dum holy book or crackhead prophets ideas

Anyone without belief in a god is an atheist. If you are unsure about the truth-value of something, you do not believe it is true; therefore you lack belief in it. As that famous quote by Richard Dawkins goes: "We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further."

To say that you do not believe in something, but it could exist and so you are agnostic, is cowardly. You don't see many agnostics for unicorns and the Easter Bunny, because people do not get angry about those.

No, someone that denies the existence of a god is an atheist, while an agnostic is someone that says we can't know.

It isn't cowardly to hold the belief that we can't know 100% for sure whether a god exists or not, it's logical. I'm an atheist and an agnostic, I recognize that a god MIGHT exist, but I don't believe that one does.

Atheism literally means lack of belief in deities; denial of their existence is not a prerequisite. If it was, then by your own definition you are not an atheist. I find it odd that you claim there is a distinction and then fail to apply it to yourself. Please explain to me where the courage is in saying "I don't and/or can't know something"? It's a meaningless statement.

In what way do you recognize that a god might exist? What is your definition of "god" and "existence"?

That's like the same thing as a saying that there are no atheists in foxholes, it's a completely inaccurate statement, and the atheists are probably going to be smarter and actually do SOMETHING to try to keep the plane from crashing rather than kneeling and thinking good thoughts

Side: No

How many atheists does it take to fly a plane? There's a good joke in there somewhere ;)

Ha, ha. Yes that is so true, Joe. It's amazing how they bring back their beliefs in God once they are put on such situation. Maybe because deep in their hearts they also believe that God really exist but they just wanted to appear "logically cool"

from Madalyn O'Hair.

> "Agnostic followers have always been allies of the church. The false notion

> that the world is unknowable undermines science and reinforces theology. It

> inclines man to faith and induces humankind to trust religious doctrines.

> The church does not anathematize the agnostic and even the Roman Catholic

> Church will accept the agnostic in its fold."

No. Agnostics basically believe that we can't really figure shit out. we're incapable of doing so.

if you're a spiritualist, i wouldn't call you an Agnostic because you actually believe in spiritualism.

I don't believe in spirits or ghosts or gods or any of that, but i don't ignore the idea that there could be somethings out there that many would consider supernatural. Does that mean there are? no. but since we can only understand so much, it doesn't mean it's not possible.

I have a probability scale. Religion being at a very low probability.

To be fair, I only consider myself a spiritualist because if there is an answer it's nothing we could have come up with. Yeah, I don't really know either.

No, they're honest and and the most logically consistent, since there's technically no proof for the non-existence of God or gods.

Side: No

Everyone is agnostic. Agnosticism relates to knowledge. Theism deals with belief, not knowledge. If you believe, you are a theist(unless deist). if you don't, you are an atheist. The same applies to knowledge. If you know that there is a god, meaning you have evidence to prove such then you are gnostic in these theistic concerns, but those don't exist. Everyone is agnostic because no one has yet proven gods existence, therefore, you cannot have knowledge of it's existence, just the possibility of it's existence. Agnosticism is simply admitting the obvious: You don't know.

Not everyone is agnostic. Strong atheists are not agnostic; they do know (or at least claim to know) that a god or gods do not exist. I think it's admirable to say you don't know something, if you don't or can't know something. However, I've never heard of a non-contradictory or logically consistent definition for god, and without that it's not a valid theory.

Most "Agnostics" don't have genuine belief, they do not know enough to have genuine belief. If you don't have belief than you are an atheist, simple as that. All of the "Agnostic" fuckers are all Atheists!!

Side: Yes

They simply do not need brainwashing or the leadership of a religion. They decide for themselves what to believe or not to believe. I think that takes more courage than being part of some crackpot group. A.K.A. Organized Religion

If anything, agnostics are humble. They're humble enough to admit that they don't know. In truth, we all fall under that category, as none of us explicitly knows or can prove the existence or non-existence of a supreme being. At least agnostics aren't afraid to say so.

Side: No

No,there people. They choose to believe in god just not practice a religion everyday.Have you ever met an agnostic person bet you have, your not better then someone because you have a diffrent religion

i beleive agnostics are the most honest truthful people in this world they look out into our vast universe and notice hey i am but a speck here and if there is something out there bigger tht created us how could we possibly know and they accept tht they are not all knowing i beleive tht takes guts to admit whereas ppl out there like to say o i know! like they are all knowing you are not :)

Side: No

Agnostics are courageous. They ask questions because they have doubts.
