Are Americans Really So Dumb That They Don't Understand Fascism?

I was greeted this morning by the spectacle of a President calling refugees and immigrants “animals” on Twitter. But that wasn’t the truly disgraceful thing. I scrolled through my Twitter feed, hoping. Would this be the day? After all, no one had done it so far. Not in the New York Times, not the Post, not CNN, not MSNBC. Perhaps, perhaps. This would finally be the day, wouldn’t it?

I mean, this was over the line. And how many more lines are there to be crossed? So I checked, and checked. Chris Hayes, Jake Tapper, Beto (I think), pundit after pundit, politician after politician. They were vehement in their outrage and condemnation. But there was something missing. The most important something of all, as Orwell taught us — his test, which we’re still flunking.

Not a single person I could see had the courage, grace, sense, or wisdom to use the simple but accurate word, concept, idea, historical lesson, “fascism.” (In fact, looking at my Twitter feed, I was the only one who did. And nobody much seemed to care. Don’t cry for me, dummy. Cry for you.) Because all of this raises a simple and serious question. It’s an ugly and inelegant one — but I think it has to be asked at this point — so forgive me.

Are Americans (really) so stupid they don’t even know fascism when they see it? Is that where we are? Who we are? Why the world laughs at us, not knowing whether to be horrified, amused, or entertained? Why is it not a single person of repute has used the word “fascism” to describe what’s happened to America…even on the day the Prez literally says the word “animals”?

I think the problem is they (around 30%), think Trumpism is good, and he has convinced them that it isn't what it actually IS …. a lead-in TO fascism. He said he would protect DAKAS, gays, Social Security, Medicare, the environment, the middle class, make everyone rich, etc., etc.. Kind of like "A Volkswagen in every garage". Then, when he got the power he needed he scrapped all that and turned to Nationalism, authoritarianism, racism, etc., built up a band of loyal "brown shirts" and Gestapo's who idolize him, tears down the democratic system of laws, stacks the courts with loyalists, and systematically tries to become Der Fuhrer of das country! Same old, same old! Listen to Mein Narrative! Next year you can pick up your Volkswagen …. if you vote for me!

By then it will be too late! Heil Trump! :-( Vote him out BEFORE it's too late! :-)

Yup, which is exactly what the Nazis did. They pitched themselves to both the right and the left, made promise after promise about how they were going to change everything for the better, and as soon as they had consolidated power they began to abuse it. Slowly at first, but the more they got away with, the bolder they became. They were the blueprint for it, and Trump is literally copying their playbook.

Fascism is state control, gun grabs and censoring truth as hate speech.

The left censored anyone that used the word "Coronsavirus" on social media and youtube, and demonetized them a month ago. Then Beto said hell yes we're gonna take your guns. And then the left called for the state to run everything. Otherwise known as Fascism according to the original Fascists.

In his 1927 "The Political and Social Doctrine of Fascism," Mussolini states "this will be a century of authority, a century of the Left, a century of Fascism."
