Arab is a race, and a Muslim is someone who follows the practices of Islam. As a secular, multicultural nation we shouldn't be enemies with any single group of people regardless of race or religion.

Religious extremists in middle eastern nations have targeted western culture as their enemy, and many fundamentalist religious extremists have claimed that we are indeed in a war against Islam. These are the same people that accused Obama of being a Muslim as if it were a bad thing. This is no better than racism, and should not be tolerated in a society that is supposed to promote ideas of freedom of thought and religion.

Even our Politicians are guilty of this

no, Radical Muslims are.

During the American Revolution, not every British person was our enemy, just the soldiers and King George III, and Loyalists who sympathized with the British.

Civil War, Confederate Southerners, not all southerners, and Northern Democrats who sympathized with the South... good thing Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus so he could arrest them without a trial.

WW2, not all Germans, Japs and Italians were our enemies, just the Facist Italians, the Nazi Germans, and the Imperialist Japanese. Although, FDR decided to imprison innocent Japanese and Germans for no other reason than that they were of that ethnicity... weird.

Now, it's the Radical Muslims and the IslamoFacists that are our enemy. Even though Bush really hasn't done anything to capture anyone other than those considered enemy combatants. you think he'd do what the GREATEST PRESIDENTS OF ALL TIME did and completely suspend Habeas Corpus, go against the Geneva Convention, and just arrest and torture ANYONE who displayed any sign of Un-patriotism, but of course Bush decides that it's wrong to falsely imprison people, so he just goes after the enemy combatants.

I guess Lincoln and FDR were just facists then... or maybe... Bush is pandering to the left... god damn.

I am still hearing this from many sources and it instantly makes me angry. I try not - to no avail.

My Mother spent a large part of her youth in Saudi Arabia. My Grandfather was a professor of English and taught it as a foreign language. Many families lived on an American compound, but as in all their travels, my family much preferred to live among the native people.I grew up listening to the most amazing, colorful stories because they lived off the compounds.

I learned that perspective and lack of is a large part of intolerance. My family has a unique perspective having lived there many years and watching the way things change much as we do in our daily lives.

When they first arrived, they were given training on how to enter another culture and not only represent America, but leave it the way they found it.There was a respect and an acknowledgment that they were guests. This was during the Kennedy administration.

Then all the wonderful stories about Arabian people of all sorts and how to never pay a compliment to an a Saudis possession or it would be given to you and how Americans were treated like royalty for simply being American. Huge meals prepared when they visited a home, meals reserved for holidays.

That when President Kennedy was assassinated Saudi mourned. Shops were shut down - American flags hung in the windows.

Mom recalls that it didn't take long to see subtle changes. Less care was given to educating new arrivals less respect was shown - rifts grew into shifts. By the time they left, it was common for American teenagers to be rude and perverse, even find bedouins and beat and rob them.Even my Aunt's boyfriend would take part in such things & later become my uncle. Things had gradually shifted from royalty to American asses.

Our culture has in many ways stepped into theirs - forgetting that their culture is ancient and has been here since before Jesus. We have made ourselves unwelcome guests. As with anything that occurs, there are reasons that attitudes changed.

Saudi has been a strong American alli along with many other Muslim nations for most of the 20th and now into the 21st century. Although I am seeing rifts forming there as well.

This blanket statement about Arabs or Muslims is so prevalent now with Obama and his funny name. It seems to me that we should return to education and respect. It seems that our government should publicly, via television, stand up and educate us about who our enemies are and who they are not. Maybe they should promote respect and encourage us to once again represent this United States of America.

NO. Absolute not. Although I'm a Caucasian Jew, I've had many friends and coworkers who were of Arab ethnic descent or the Muslim faith.

Fundamentalists, however, ARE enemies of society. That goes for Fundamentalist Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Jews, Christians, Atheists, and so forth.
