I tried to sever someone's head off with a DVD but it was not even remotely effective, but smacking them across the head with a book did the trick.

I like your humor, but I don't think that is what is to truly be said. It has hardly any relevance as to what this civilian may be truly asking unless you are trying to make a metaphor or anology.

Usually books are better, as they tend to get more involved and thorough in telling the entire story.

Movies of course are limited with their time constraints. A movie is only a couple hours long, but a novel often takes days to read, even reading for 2-3 hours a day. Therefore, it has more subplots, background info, and even secondary characters that a movie may not be able to fit in.

But once in awhile there is an exception; when a movie or TV series is so well done that it covers all the bases and has such great graphics and CGI that it more than does justice to the book(s). And so it makes it pretty much unnecessary to read them.

The first example of this that comes to my mind is the superb HBO series, "Game of Thrones."

George RR Martin's books are very very long. And there are about six of them. But with HBO you can get the full-impact--maybe even more!--with just one hour every Sunday night. Watch the back episodes and seasons on CD or from NetFlix. This is what I did. I didn't get into GOT until late, a year or so ago when HBO was already in its 3rd Season. SO I binge-watched the back seasons--a friend ripped them for me form the Net--in about one week> And then got caught-up and began seeing them on HBO. Love it!

Take a look at Percy Jackson the lightning thief.... seriously... this is a great example. The book was good but the movie... was like listening to a cat get gutted with a butter knife.

What about movies that aren't even based off books? Not saying I disagree at all, but it's something to think about.

books are nice because you get detail through writing, like you can hear it. you get to use your imagination and shape that character to a limit and you get to visualize yourself what they would look like and how they show emotions. also, in books it pays more attention to the surroundings and has more detail and is straightforward to what the character is thinking and or feeling.

Even with all of the different allotted sort of books out there each and every day authors write, they are constantly changing from each encounter. Unconsciously we get to proceed in enduring ourselves into their works, and in a way get to experience what the author and/or character expresses. Though you may not notice, with every word these books present you, you change your (or just become more of you in your) life. Luckily books can take a while to read over a gradual time, so you experience this unconscious change slowly. Rather in movies the views from the other can get transversed with the original thoughts that were composed hence leading to a disturbance or just another derogatory of experience. Some are visual and need movies to be able to comprehend the books better, but in turn, books satisfy one's personal feeling of experience and/or adventure. My apologies if my thoughts sound unclear or scrambled, but I'd be willing to clarify, recognize, or debate with certain points you find contained within this text.

Books are way better than movies. First off, if you compare books such as the Giver and the Hunger Games, the book is so much better. In fact, so far I have not found a movie that is better than the book. The movie ruins the book by adding other stuff to it, changing the plot entirely. If you have ever watched Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters, it combines the rest of the books in the series in one movie, ruining the entire series and leaving out many details.

Well even though i thing movies are better, sadly, tv damages your eyes which makes u wear glasses and get ugly

Books are better. You can understand the character more and the detail is better then movies. Lets not forget that books can expand your vocabulary.

Movies are really nice because you get to see your character play out themselves. you don't have as much imagination with them, but being able to see them and bring them to life, and have words and a visual to go with them makes the story more interesting. also, if your someone who likes to read a book fast or in one sitting (like me) your more paced with movies, it has a start and end time so you can enjoy it.

I favour movies (even though I'm the author of a book myself), as they involve actual people. Books are just imagination.

I believe that although you may say "books are just imagination" you should recognize that there are also non-fictional books and all sorts like that. Plus imagination derives from YOU the individual, so to imply imagination is just this simple little thing, I find that hardly true. For imagination is a derogatory from oneself experiences.

While the actors and actresses are 'real people', they are still fictional characters(sometimes). What about books that are made into movies? What about the amount of story and information that you get out of a book or movie?

i think that in both cases there are some elements that are thrown in and taken out. movies often leave out little details that books cover.

To me, it's down to the existence of the person, as opposed to the existence of the text. The fact of people on screen is better than the just the fact of a written word.

I pick Movies, cause i find them more interesting. Cause when i read my eyes hurt, and i get distracted while reading........

Movies are better because, books are just really boring sometimes. You also see things actually happening in the movies and its just way more relaxing watching a movie than reading a book.

movies are easyer because most kides have a problem with reading and we dont want kids to miss out on all the amazing storys.
