Are Humans Still Evolving.

This debate is only for people who believe in evolution.

Also feel free to theorize what traits future "humans" might have.

Yes, we are.

Of course we are still evolving. But now it is more in our own control than before, since we can create the environment we live in and change it whenever we want.

This debate is only for people who believe in evolution.

I wouldn't use the word believe. Evolution is a fact, it is not something you believe in as it is with religions.

"Believing" essentially means "trusting" something with no absolute evidence, and evolution does have absolute evidence. Therefore, saying that one believes in evolution is false.

"Believe" can just mean accepting something as true. I believe that water is H20, because the evidence points that way. Likewise, I believe evolution is true, because the evidence points that way.

Side: No, we're beyond that now.

The word has been abused thoroughly (religion), no wonder I don't like using it.

There is reasonable evidence that evolution is fact but I've seen very little of it. Besides science should be open to scrutiny.

Side: No, we're beyond that now.

The 21st century has brought many things with it, and with those things the human body and MIND must adapt. I think that when the word 'evolution' is used people automatically think that we are growing tails or wings or something (and maybe we are, but we cannot notice it yet) but it is also our minds that evolve to take on new challenges and to compete against the Artificial Intelligences that will one day be more intelligent than us - especially if we do not evolve. The reason humans became the dominant species on this planet is because we outsmarted the other species. If that is no longer the case then we will be forced to evolve.

We are still moving on the path.

A few hundred years ago people would only live a few years, now we can live over 100 years old, and the age limit keeps getting higher every year or so.

Also, by my defination of evoulation is also getting smarter.

We are getting better tech and getting smarter every year, just ten yeras ago the ipods, cell phones, computers, were just getting started. look at them now.

Yes, we are still evolving. Well... most of us are, anyways .

Every living thing has to evolve and adapt to the enviorment so yes

Evolution will always happen. Unless we specifically target people to reproduce with with identical genes, we will evolve.

The selection is just not based on survival so much anymore, except for fatal genetic diseases. Instead it is cultural.

Side: Yes, we are.

We are evolving faster then ever. Our technological development is growing exponentially, which means, in a way, we are exponentially evolving. Our minds have less and less limits as time goes on, and this is reflected in our technology.

Side: Yes, we are.

science is just going to grow and grow, and as humans, we must keep up with it.

we also have yet to figure out how to use our full brain capacity.

Side: Yes, we are.

Evolution is an ongoing process that continues forward. Evolution does not cease.

Side: Yes, we are.

we are evolving so incredibly slowly that it really doesn't matter. It doesn't mean anything and it never will for a REALLY long time. Its not that we are to far evolved though. Its that evolution is a way to adapt. What do we have to adapt to, we run the show.

Side: No, we're beyond that now.

Humans still compete with other humans. There is always the chance that someone wants to try tweaking the human genome in a laboratory to create an army of super soldiers to take over the world, but I'm not sure of the feasibility of this scenario.

A sane scientist may have less sinister reasons to alter the human genome, for instance curing cancer. Hmm taking over the world and curing cancer these are really generic examples of good and bad science.

Any way my point is there are still reasons to alter the human genome. I'm sure there are reasons to keep it the way it, is but I can't think of any right now.

see thats not evolving that is artificial tweaking. I get that your trying to say there are reasons to evolve but cancer for instance isn't something you adapt to. Evolving is when you adapt to say, having more nimble fingers to make stuff.

Side: No, we're beyond that now.

I disagree. We are evolving very, VERY fast. Evolution is not just physical traits. Like we're going to grow another limb or stuff like that. We are evolving in our mind.

Side: Yes, we are.
