Probably yes. But I think there is more to it than that. A lot of arguments don't go anywhere, because the two opposing sides are arguing on different terms. One person may skip a step in their argument because to them it's obvious, but this is not always apparent to the other person. So there is often an unstated or implied assumption that is the real root of the issue, that gets overlooked in a debate. Side: yes
