The inherent trait determines the potential for a leader to emerge. For one person they may exhibit characteristics synonymous with leadership from the offset and would typically be classified as a ‘born leader’, however another individual may possess those same qualities but they lay dormant and eclipsed by antithetical ones (i.e. unassertive, diffident etc.) so only via certain circumstances will society see them activated and manifest, perhaps giving rise to the term ‘dark horse’. A little like a plant: its fruition cannot come to be so without the seed already present. Side: BORN?
To an extent, yes. If one possessed only the desire to become a leader as opposed to a disposition, then the sheer strength of their resolve would more than likely see them through given they follow the appropriate steps (e.g. mentoring). Nevertheless, I think this then draws upon the further context of differentiation between good leaders and great leaders. Similar to my original post, those with the trait already embedded may need stronger reliance upon environmental factors to elicit it (especially if say their low confidence instills a disbelief of its presence within). Once it is elicited however, they would tend to surpass their non-disposed counterpart in terms of effectiveness; much in the way that anyone can learn to play an instrument but some actually have a natural flair for it which manifests in the quality of their performance. The reason i say that leaders are born is that in any gathering there are just those who are willing to lead and those who don't mind following and that's the first place where you see that leaders are born. Its in certain people and absent in others meaning some are born leaders and some not Side: BORN?
its all about who is your role model. people einstein was no leader of the country but surly he lead the world into a whole new level. Albert Einstein was said to be dumb because of his hard work he became an extraordinary man who is praised through out the world. he mad himself into a better person. he earned his name through HARD WORK not just because it was in his genes or he was destined, PEOPLE we make are own destiny Side: MADE?
A combination of both, but with congenital leadership qualities being the predominate requirement. Although almost everyone looks for leadership and direction it is only a rare few who will have the necessary personal attributes and strength of character to command the respect of the ''great unwashed'' masses. Like all talents, leadership skills can be improved through specialized leadership development courses. Side: BORN?

This could really go both ways it all depends on who you are or in this case the "leader" is and where you are. There is no real way to decide whether leaders are born or made, but there are points you can make to win a side or not. First off it could be inherited power of leadership which would state they were born to be a leader. then there is the whole dominant genes that could make a person feel like or just take it easier to lead someone while others may be born to watch, follow and so forth. Side: BORN?
We are all born with genetic dispositions that may or may not be stimulated over the course of our lives. Leadership is no different. Some people are born with a disposition towards leadership and some are not. Of those who are born with the disposition some will become leaders and some will not, depending on what they are exposed to during their lives. Side: BORN?

I think leaders are made. for example Nelson Mandela he went to jail through this people are often defined as criminals and has no successful life! but he proved many people wrong and was made one of the best leaders quote "I was not a messiah, but an ordinary man who had become a leader because of extraordinary circumstances Side: MADE?
