Are religions hypocritical?

Not necessarily ALL religions, just the main ones I guess.

If the Protestant work ethic brings wealth. If Islam is inherently peaceful. If Buddhists have sex/meals/attachment to anything.

Hinduism seems like a grab bag and I can't think of anything for Judaism, but generally yes, they are.

You are talking about hypocritical people, not their religions. And as far as I'm aware, no religion tells people to disobey what the religion is about.

Perhaps it's the people. But in the case of Buddhism, if everyone followed it's teachings to a T, they wouldn't exist after one generation. They wouldn't have children. They wouldn't prolong this Life/Death/Rebirth cycle of suffering. The persistence of Buddhism requires that it's followers not follow it consistently.

In the case of Protestantism, the supposed work ethic comes from the notion that material success is evidence of living properly in Gods eyes. This contradicts other Christian teachings.
