Are strong Worker Unions necessary in a fair and equal society?

Sometimes. Despite the recent crusade against them (and indeed despite their abuses of power at times) it is a fact of history that lots of the worker safety protections in the Western World owe their existence to unions.

Everything in balance my friends. Sometimes you need the help of a union, sometimes you don't. Sometimes the union is the problem. But you're foolish to think all unions all the time are simply bad.

The only way an ordinary individual can stand up to a bad situations from a large entity is to stand together with other individuals.

im not familiar with this topic, but im going to argue that they are not. A society cannot be both fair and equal. fair means everyone gets what they deserve, and equal means everyone gets the same thing. but for the purpose of the this debate i would argue that individuals who are aware of there surroundings and use there voice to influence those around them. often time a government views people as bodies used for gears in a machine instead of as a mind that thinks for its self.

Fairer and more equal society would be a better phrase. I wish we could edit debates.
