I rather have extreme heat than the extreme cold. Winter in the northern United States just sucks. Plus, I can golf in the extreme heat whereas the cold I can't.
I'd probably say 'no' if I lived in the U.S. But I haven't seen 'extreme' heat in 10 years. Our summers are getting worse by the year. At an estimate, where I live, we've had around 8 days the since May that have been 24 degrees Celsius (75 degrees to you!). But mostly below 20 (68F).
I was in London last summer towards the end of June, July and the heat was terrible, as it was throughout Europe. I so wanted it to rain...as we all bought raincoats. Never rained once. Went on the double decker buses...had a blast but it was HOT. Not as hot as Paris however...went to the Versailles and I about passed out waiting in line to get in.
London gets hot as there is practically no coastline. I live in Cornwall, we have the biggest coastline in England. We seem to get all the gale force wind and that horrible 'blowy' rain.
Oh you live in a beautiful place.......wow. I love the ocean, I love rain and I love winds....sigh.
My husband wants to come over and play golf courses...St. Andrews of course. But I was looking at this hotel I saw in a brochure...called the Carlyon Bay Hotel. It looks gorgeous. Do you know anything about it?
Royal Duchy Hotel looks nice too. He has never been to Europe and I have been three times....and well its my favorite place to travel. I love London and the history.
I absolutely, I hate to admit but always have loved reading about the Royal family, in fact still subscribe to Royal Monthly magazine. LOL
I loved Diana and am again in love with Katherine...she is gorgeous. Don't laugh but I had a slumber party, sleeping bags and cots all over the den floor...we stayed up all night to watch everything that went on the day they got married. They got married, eleven your time....three in the morning mine. I ordered a mini wedding cake...and we sat around and ate cake until we were sick. We had so much fun. They look so much in love......sigh.
Carylon is in St. Austell, lovely little village and a stones throw away from the Eden Project (one of the wonders of the world I do believe). Royal Duchy is in Falmouth, I think? Again a lovely place especially for boating trips but a lot more industrialized in the town centre.
They are both around 60 miles from me, I live in Newlyn a small fishing village twinned with Penzance. We get a lot of tourism here because we have the only link to the Scilly Isles (the Sciollonian ferry and the helicopter). It's also very close Lands End. We're the last stop by train in the south west.
I wouldn't worry about staying up all night watching the Royal Wedding, it's enthusiasts like yourself that generated a large tourism income for the UK. I stayed up until 4AM watching the election results the year Obama got in, everyone thought I was mad!
When I was in England I couldn't believe the hostile feelins towards the Royal family. The bus driver who took us to Windsor Castle....about ruined the tour for us bashing them. He should have been fired. Of course he has his opion which is ok...but we were all excited in the moment and he was a downer. I love the Royal family and well....love William and Kate.....she is simply gorgeous....and her style well...I just adore her. When she walked out of the hotel and we first saw her getting into the limo....was something else. Her dress...so tasteful and elegant....sigh. And the way she and William looked at eachother.....they are really really in love. And Pippa...well she was gorgeous too.
I went to bed early the night Obama was elected...and cried myself to sleep. LOL
I love this debate, because I've noticed that everyone's opinion is influenced by where they live.. we always want what we don't have. I love the heat personally, because if I'm hot, I can just jump in the pool.. while I do like winter, for reasons different than why I like summer, there is just something awesome about a sunny day!
I am in NY and I hate the damn snow, cleaning up after that crap and then trying to get through it all to get to work is horrible. Although I don't like extreme heat I rather be warm than cold.
No, especially when there is high humidity, it messes with my sleep, plus I have hayfever, higher histamine levels equals more disturbed sleep, leaving me like a asshole zombie in the warmer months. I love the winter, I love the cold, I rest better and I'm much more productive, thank fuck the college semester starts in Autumn.
I live in Florida. It's hot as shit. I fuckin' hate it and I want Winter to come back.
What really sucks is that even during Winter, there are patches of heat. I like Winter because I can just bundle up in order to get warm. In the heat, I can only strip down to nudity, and it would still be fuckin' hot. Probably even worse, since I'll get a sunburn if I go outside.
Oh i love this debate. I live in Scottsdale Arizona. It is HOT. It does not feel like an oven....it feels like you are IN AN OVEN. It is hot from June to the end of October. When they say on the news weather....a cooler front is moving in...that means instead of being 118...its 105. I live on a golf course.......its beautiful. No one plays in the summer....its TOOOOOOO HOT. You go to the mall...and by the time you get to your car you are dripping wet. You get it, the seat is to hot to sit on, the wheel to hot to hold while driving. It is also Monsoon season. So not only is it hot, its dusty. A few weeks back we had a huge monsoon ...walls of dust spreading across the valley. It seeps through windows and doors....and if you are out in it...you literally can spit dust out your mouth. Your eyes water....and its terrible for people who have upper chest infections. It also rained.......dirt.
I hate the heat.....and everything that goes with it. I love seasons, and rainstorms, snowstorms...the smell and sound of a campfire in fall.........watching the snow fall from the sky and covering the trees....sigh......
I remember taking my son to a golf tournament in Baton Rouge one summer. I thought I was going to die. He went through four golf shirts in one eighteen hole round. You couldn't breathe...the humidity is a killer.
Ugh, I don't want any kind of extreme weather. My favourite climate would be one that is perpetually comfortably warm (not hot), neither humid nor dry, has little or no wind, is not sunny, not rainy, definitely not snowing... basically, just balanced.
I know it makes for boring scenery, but I'll take comfort over eye-candy any day.
