I support equal marital rights, because a legal marriage has many practical aspects too. A married couple inherit each other in case of one dying, a married couple is legally a family, which means that in those cases where only family are allowed, unmarried partners are not considered to be part of that family.

Where I live a married couple are automatically registered as parents if and when they have a child, however when unmarried parents have a child, only the mother is registered, and if the father wants custody either the mother needs to grant him his fatherly rights or he has to sue for them. My sister has a son with her husband that she married after their son's birth, she found out when he was 10 years old that her husband and his father didn't even have parental rights over his own son. Although he's been given it now, if her husband died without legally being his son's father that means no inheritance for his only son, unless he of course made a will.

This argument may be out of topic, but it is just to give an idea how much paperwork can come with a paperless marriage, and how practical the single legal binding document of marriage in itself holds. It is wrong to discriminate by gender who should have marital rights with arguments including tradition and all that crap, when marriage is so much more than that.
