CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.

^But this isn't just happening in the US. Have you taken a look at Europe? All great countries, that have contributed largely to the world, a large part of them 80% Atheist, including the world's most prospering, livable countries- like Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
Even England is 40-50% non-religious, and growing.
And Japan, a leading country in technology has a population that is 80% non-religious.
Truly eventually atheism will prevail, as science increases its scope and the unknown dwindles to a smaller and smaller degree, leaving no room for a God, and flawed ideologies.
Thewayitis, sooner or later you would need to get with the times, and look beyond that little Christian world of yours.
Yes, in a lab, like actually doing something for humanity like finding the cure for cancer, or discovering new things about the world we live in, instead of settling with the bible as the answer for everything. I'm sorry for suppressing your 'great spirit' with my mediocre mind, so I will let you fly free like the misunderstood unicorn you see yourself to be.
Who needs to widen the scope in which their world exists?
Who says that? Everyone needs to widen their views to the world, instead of fading in a shroud of ignorance. You made a broad claim, stating that 'everyone else is religious' as if Atheists were meant to be ostracized as 'freaks' on the outside. I've shown you, the times are a' changing, and people are becoming Atheist at a quickening pace. Isn't it embarrassing that as access to logical information increases, belief in religion are decreasing? There is a reason behind that, and as juvenile as it sounds; religion is dumb.
A snake can't talk. A donkey can't talk. You can't fit 60,000,000 animals in a boat, and have them all survive. And I understand that these things should not be taken seriously, but why are you forced to not take them seriously in your own religion? If it is so right, why is it so flawed, and broken, and generally shitty?
The weird part is that there are some things that you must believe in, even if they are terribly illogical- such as Adam and Eve. You should automatically know how messed up that is, yet you continue to believe the fairy tale.
(Such as, they are one ethnicity? Their children had incest?)
I personally am religious, though I absolutely believe some others are not. In my experience god is not a person over the earth messing us all around. God is an ever present spirit through the world. So I feel god when I listen to the wind or animals or interact with people. It's a feeling I have, you can't tell me I don't in the same way I can't tell others they do. Also keep in mind differences between spiritual and religious. Some people believe in a god but don't fit into a specific religion.
Nothing will be settled really, asking these questions. There is barking on both ends of the spectrum back and forth, most of the time it's the atheists calling the theists ignorant, foolish, childish, absurd, insane, adjectives like that.
It's sad really when these certain people choose to do so. In fact, I've got many friends and acquaintances who are atheist and agnostic whom have never called me such words before, yet my friends and I still manage to have much more "in depth" and genuine conversations than people on this create debate site, without name calling.
I'm a theist, and I defend myself to the retarded comments made by non believers, it's no thang. Certain people on this site just don't get it. Or if they do, they enjoy being morons to theists for the fun of it.
Who's more productive? Hm, interesting question indeed. I say people can have in depth discussions without calling each other fucking idiotic terms just for the fun of it. Fuck that noise.
Well, yes and no. I am Christian, but I'm not Catholic or Lutheran or anything like that. I'm just Born Again, meaning I've accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. My dad tells me that it doesn't really fall under Christian 'religion', but I don't know how to explain why... It's just different from everything else. But I am Christian, if you wanna make things simple.
I grew in religion family, but I never felt pressure by parents. They always gave me the right to choose. I went to church was baptized, but she did not believe in God. Once I made the choice myself. at one time I had a big problem in my life. Everything was wrong. I quarreled with my family and with all my friends, flew abroad, and I had a problem, I could be deported. My mother was worried about me! And then I started to pray.My mother went to church and just praying for me. The feeling is difficult to describe.Sometimes I think that it was what saved me. With time All improved. I take the view that each person must make a choice and choose not to judge others.
I don't see any point for all the religous debates poping up, sure a few are fine but they don't really accomplish anything other than offending people.
Think of it like a compass. You can go east or west (theism or atheism), and north or south (gnosticism or agnosticism). It's not contradictory to go north west or south east.
I don't have a religion, but I have belifs. I belive in all sorts of stuff from many cultures I have learned about. Although, sometimes I go to church with a friend of mine, as a guest, I believe in my belifs and there is nothing anyone can do to change them.
No i am not religious i hate dogmatic practices, and what else i hate is this "overly cliche" saying of "spiritual but not religious" Religion is the tools used to build the house of spirituality, but once you have reached the point of spiritual enlightenment, you should leave the tools behind ^.^
I know its God because of the results that I see and hear. Also I would know if it was Satan because he says false things because he is a deceiver and a liar and all of those gods you mentioned after Satan are all false gods because satan used people to create those false religions.
How do I know that he is not deceiving me is because I would see the result of it. I always see the result that God ether answers my prayer by saying yes or no.
He can decieve people but I can tell if he is trying to decieve me because he wants to put in doubt, and discouragement and he makes you think its not from God when really it is from God and tries to tell lies and ignore those's lies that he is trying to put in my head. I need faith not doubt.
Then there are very, very few religions, because many, many religions have a prophet/messiah and/or a god figure to commune with. For example, if Christianity isn't a religion it's a relationship with Jesus, Islam isn't a religion it's a relationship with Muhammad. If Christianity isn't a religion because you pray (i.e. talk to god and think god talks back to you), the Judaism isn't a religion because Jews pray. So while it's not invalid to say your religion is a relationship, it's pointless and dumb to say it's not a religion because it's a relationship, because that completely devalues the meaning of the word "religion/religious." We could go around calling Christians "People Who are an a Relationship with Jesus," instead of Christian, but that's kind of a mouthful; we could call Muslims "People Who Talk With Allah," instead of Muslim, but that's obnoxious.
If you want to refer to your religion as a relationship status that's fine, but you are religious, you are Christian, and unless you expect everyone to replace various religious labels with lengthy descriptive phrases, get used to people referring to you as religious and your religion as Christianity.
Bumper sticker wisdom mantras don't hold water on a debate forum.
A religion is lets say for example you worship a tree and you pray to a tree and the tree doesn't talk back to you. That's the same as Islam, Buddism and all of the other religions except for Christianity because I talk to God and He talks back to me. Islam pray to the prophet Muhammad who is dead and so Muhammad can't talk back to the Muslims same with Buddists, Budda was a real person but Budda is dead now so the buddists can't talk to Budda since he is dead.
See, Jesus is alive and well and He answers my prayers and I see the result of the prayer and also if I do something wrong I can hear God's voice telling me what I did was wrong so I therefore I am in a relationship and all of those other religions except for the Christian relationship are wrong because they were made my man but Jesus was God inside a human man that knew more about things and was perfect where as man's ways are filled with errors and lies.
People can label me a Christian that is fine I have no problem with it because I follow Christ.
I do remember one person who said God told him what to do... oh, wait- he's a serial killer who now lives in a mental hospital... Sutcliffe, I believe his name is.
I believe there are many people who do horrible things in the name of whatever X, Y, Z god, just as much as I remember many people who do horrible things in the name of no X, Y , Z god. People do stupid things for many different reasons.
People think its a religion because religion is defined as "a burdensome yoke of man-made rules and dead rituals; a futile attempt to please God and save oneself by good works
It is more than just good works its about following Jesus Christ and telling people about Christ and making disciples.
I WOULD NEVER WORSHIP SOME PHONEY MAKE BELIVE god THAT DOESN'T EXIST AND WHOSE holy book SHOULD BE TORN TO PIECES AND TOSSED AWAY FOR IT ISN'T WORTH THE PAPER IT IS PRINTED ON .
Many of those holy books while yes their main fiction is to spread the word of god (whoever that is represented to be) also help to show the culture and history of a certain group of people. They contain much more then just religious stories. Even if you do not take them as fact you can learn from them about the morals, traditions and history of ancient people. So don't discount them just because you don't see the stories as factual.
Eh, I will be up for a bible that takes out the stories (like Genesis, since it isn't part of actual ancient peoples) and the god-verses and leaves the other things, including when people talk about or reference god.
The story of Abraham is found in the book of genesis, and he two sons are attributed as the ones who would later created Judism and Islam.
Whether you see this as factual or not, to the two groups this is a crucial part of their history which seeps into their present day culture. A basic understanding of holy books like the Bible is beneficial for understanding cultures like that.
Hello everyone ! I believe in God, and thank him for everything i have. But i'm not so religious. In my view religious people always do right and good things, but we are all people. We learn from our mistakes, also we have only one life.
