Art vs. Politics

Which is more important?

Art

Side Score: 2
VS.

Politics

Side Score: 4

Art helps people grow intellectually, as politics creates pride, is full of flaws and degrades the image of fellow men. I believe if we, as a nation, focused more on art, our politics would benefit, and we would be a more insightful, intuitive country

Side: Art

I'm not suggesting there should be no government at all... just that art should be a higher priority. I believe our politics would evolve for the better if art were more prominent

art

The definition of art is controversial in contemporary philosophy. Whether art can be defined has also been a matter of controversy. The philosophical usefulness of a definition of art has also been debated.

Contemporary definitions are of two main sorts. One distinctively modern, conventionalist, sort of definition focuses on art's institutional features, emphasizing the way art changes over time, modern works that appear to break radically with all traditional art, and the relational properties of artworks that depend on works' relations to art history, art genres, etc. The less conventionalist sort of contemporary definition makes use of a broader, more traditional concept of aesthetic properties that includes more than art-relational ones, and focuses on art's pan-cultural and trans-historical characteristics.

Being a social animal, and a relatively physically week one at that, some kind of government is an absolute necessity. Like it or not, without "government" we're an extinct species.

Regardless of the type of government, it is always based on politics. Even the most tyranical leader, even if he was born into it and got there through no fault of his own, even if he or she is worshiped like a god as the Pharoes were,

it takes some measure of "politics" to maintain a society, even a horrible society.

So while I certainly like art much more, I'm afraid it's existance simply would not be possible without politics.

I don't like the word "politics" it scares people.

An apathetic country is an easy one to take advantage of.

We live in a society where the famous pop stars opinions effect the opinions of the people too much. We care about intertainment to much therefore leaders that want big government are going to get those 'idols' on their side. 'cough 2008' ..what?

Side: Politics

I think they are equally important. It depends on where you live in your soul that's the difference. Without endowments to the arts from private citizens and government, we'd hardly have art at all on a grand scale.
