Like anything that wields power it needs control. It would be a shame that something like this would not be used.

Bacteria such as Escherichia coli has been genetically engineered to produce Insulin for years, this is only one step further, and is a very good thing.

All sounds good to me, until it effects me in a day to day basis I am indifferent ;)

I really dislike all this "morality" talks when it comes to medicine.. Anyone in a position where they are suffering and dying yet there is a cure to their affliction will want the treatment REGARDLESS of what some people call "playing god".

The benefits are immense. But just like anything else, some people will ALWAYS find a bad use for it.

Don't deny it for the majority because of the minority!

Imagine AI fixing bones in 1/3 of the time it would take naturally, and how about if they could disable "bad" cells (aka Cancer) from growing?

I can see human evolution with such drastic sciences, so should everyone else!

Side: Good

I think it is good in that the study of this synthetic cell could be a gateway for the cure of some diseases.

Devil's advocate it is then.

1.) (Stop playing god argument)

Why would they call upon the wrath of god for this to happen? If he wanted such a creature to exist would he not do it himself?

2.) (Bio argument)

Wait, the technology exists? Do you know what this means? This means that at anytime a powerful bio warfare weapon could be realized at anytime! It could turn people in too puddles of goo (I am going so far overboard on this)! We must stop it immediately!

That's all I can think off right now... a bit more dramatic than I planned. Please do not turn this into a religious debate.

Ha, at the current level of security for anything that can't be turned into a weapon of mass destruction in a month, terrorists will being doing this within a year.

Just trying to play Devil's Advocate
