Atheists have everything to live for because this is it. If they don't party now, they're never gonna party. That's why atheists throw the best parties ;)
Dude this is stupid because people just die you don' have to have something to die for. Atheists won't go to heaven because they don!t believe but that's it.
That's really sad that you would say that heaven is not real because I know it is and I have proof. I can't make you believe in him but I can teach you the truth.
You do not know; you believe. If you had proof you would have presented it by now. If you could make me believe you would have done so already. You cannot teach me the truth because your delusions are not truth. Keep spewing your drivel if you feel so compelled, but spare me your sympathy.
P.S. CD 101: If you are responding to a pre-existing post rather than making an original post, select one of the blue hyperlinks (support, dispute, clarify) on the comment you are responding to. This will notify the debater you are intending to respond to, otherwise there is a high chance people will not know you responded and will never reply.
How can you say that you are going to teach someone the truth when it's only a theory. Because at the end of the day, every idea about life and where we come from of where we go is just a theory. The creation theory, the big bang theory, the evolution theory, the Buddhist theory. They are all theories with their amount of "evidence" to each. I think that's the problem with humanity, we talk about facts when it's just opinions.
Okay then I will make you believe. If you were going to tell a story about a Jesus coming down to save the world how you tell it? Would you have thought of a baby born of a virgin lying in a manger. Or would it be like a lion?
I doubt it. You cannot even grasp basic forum navigation after it has been described to you. Fail idiot/troll is fail.
I would not tell such a story as anything but pure fiction, so really either option would be valid. This line of abstracted, hypothetical inquiry also in no way constitutes proof. You also have not rebutted my other point on this debate, so I take it as conceded until such time as you do.
You are so blind, the scandal of grace. So to you the idea of Jesus is way too good to be true. The fact that the God of "gods" would come down to save us as a human is all too good to be true. I was adopted from Haiti when I was nine and now I am 15. I spent 9 years not knowing who Jesus is, I was taught to worship the devil. See Haiti is labeled one of the most dangerous countries. I starved and should've died. But I survived and I never knew why until I came here to American and I found out why. The unthinkable story of Jesus, the story that no human mind could ever make up. And you know it, just a much as I do.
atheists have nothing to die for because they ahem nothing to look forward to after this life.they do not have a purpose in life if they choose to believe that there is no god. all they know is this life
You are right, we have nothing to die for, as for death s the end of life. Therefor, we have everything to live for. We live because life is our treasure. We live because this is it, as a difference to religious people that live, to then die and "Live forever." So in that case, they live to die. We live because we only get one chance at life.
On the contrary, for most theists, dying for something has little meaning.
"Dying for something" carries very little weight if it's done under the assumption that this life is merely a small starting point with an immeasurably better eternal existence following it.
Compare:
"For [person/cause], I would risk a permanent end to my existence."
vs
"For [person/cause], I would risk starting my permanent luxury vacation sooner than originally intended."
Actually, firm believers have a lot to life for. We live our lives in the way Jesus wants us to. We have to overcome sin and temptation. We live for Jesus, and if we fail to live for him we may face eternal damnation.
i think too many people are strangely considering god as the only thing there is to die for, which considering the lifestyles of people today is dishonest and inconsistent. there are infinite things you can find to do, experience, love, enjoy and die for, regardless of whether you are an atheist or a theist, therefore this question is somewhat flawed in that it doesnt really have much of an answer... even from a non-relativist point of view
And God says when his child comes home He throws the biggest parties ever. God party's the right way. This is not drinking and drunk and stuff like that. Christians party they just party the appropriate way.
God actually said when his child (Jesus) comes back judgment will be cast upon all who lived and live. All of God's creation will face him for a final judgment of eternal life of eternal torment. All Christians don't party appropriately either.
I agree but when you accept Jesus he forgives you for everything you are going to do. He knows your future and He forgives you for it. He knows your past and He forgives you for that too. So all he wants is your heart. Doing good things is not going to get you to heaven. All you have to do is A, B, C
A. Admit to Jesus that you are a sinner
B. Believe in your heart that Jesus is the son of God and He came down to save all of us.
C. Confess your faith in Jesus and live you life for Him forever more.
Jesus says if you confess Me before man than I will confess you before the Father(God).
he forgives you for everything you are going to do.
No, he does not. You are being cleaned of your sins. You can still sin more in the future and break that relationship with Christ.
I agree qith the rest of your argument, but following Christ is a part of living for Christ. You have to believe and live for Christ and truly believe in his word. Otherwise, you will not make it into heaven.
When you accept Jesus he already knows what you are going to do. And once you accept him there is nothing you can do that He won't forgive and that will break your relationship with Him. But if you truly have Christ you will feel the guilt when you sin and you will ask for His forgiveness. All you have to do is have Jesus in your heart to make it to heaven. Nothing less or more, just accept His gift of forgiveness.
Yes, God does, but you can still sin, break the bond between you and God and end up in hell. You must follow the law of God and live for him. Accepting Jesus alome will not get you into heaven. God knows the content of your heart. If it's not within standing of Christ you cannot live in heaven.
Then, by your rules, you may be able to get into heaven. If your church teaches that it's fairly easy to get into heaven than so be it. I cannot really prove them wrong. I think we would have a disagreement on interpretations.
We should make a pact, right here, right now. If you die before me, save me a seat (I don't want to have to stand for all eternity). If I die before you, I will do the same for you. Deal? ;)
I understand that I will have to get into heaven on my own but once I'm there I expect to be able to see you, walk over to you and say, "Hey, did you save me a seat like I asked?" ;)
The Bible clearly states in Romans 8:38-39 that it is impossible for a Christian to lose their salvation. (2) It would also make John 3:16 at least on shaky ground, as you do not really get eternal life if you can lose it. (3) Right?
Another problem is that I got it that you are suggesting that works make you saved which is condemned in Ephesians 2:8-9 (1).
Reference 1.For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
-Ephesians 2:8-9
Reference 2.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 8:38-39
Reference 3.For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The Bible clearly states in Romans 8:38-39 that it is impossible for a Christian to lose their salvation.
God loves his creation, but this doesn't mean he gives salvation to all. Nothing can break the love God has for his people, but salvation can be lost.
It would also make John 3:16 at least on shaky ground, as you do not really get eternal life if you can lose it.
If your heart is not truly for God salvation will not come to you unless God wills it to. If one truly believes in God they will abide by God. God can see into the hearts of man, so anyone who doesn't have a heart for Christ will not gain salvation, unless he wills it.
Another problem is that I got it that you are suggesting that works make you saved which is condemned in Ephesians 2:8-9
Of course not, but not living for Christ is not demonstrating your love for him, which makes us question the content of your heart. This verse is telling you that simply doing good deeds is not enough to be saved by God. God saves man through grace and mercy. I am not suggesting that works saves a man, but the way you live your life can show us your relationship with God and if you truly believe in God, which includes his word, you will live by it.
Atheists have everything to die for because they think they won't have another chance so they might as well do it right the first time. With religion though, you can believe in reincarnation.
You don't have Jesus if you get drunk at parties all the time.
You cannot prove your claim anymore than any other self-identifying Christian could prove their interpretation. The only objectively based criteria for determining who is a Christian is self-identification, and by that standard there are plenty of Christians who get drunk.
You also failed to address that, contrary to your implications, not all atheists get drunk. Looks like your bright-line of moral superiority is as delusional and unfounded as your theistic beliefs themselves.
You could not be more wrong. I never said all atheist get drunk. And you are right Christianity is not a religion, it's a way of living. My concupiscence for Jesus is strong. I strongly long for him and his love and mercy and grace. You failed to address the fact that no has ever proved that God is not real and no one has ever proved that atheist is right. So if you can't prove anything about it then you have no right to speak.
Apologies; that was an inaccurate observation on my part. You only claimed that no Christians get drunk, which remains fallible.
And you are right Christianity is not a religion, it's a way of living.
I never said Christianity is not a religion. You said that. I linked to a dictionary that defined Christianity as being a religion (notably, it says nothing at all about a way of life). Being a way of living is also not mutually exclusive to being a religion.
My concupiscence for Jesus is strong. I strongly long for him and his love and mercy and grace.
Concupiscence... and you accuse me of using "fancy" words. Anyways, I could care less about what you feel; your emotions are not especially compelling to me.
You failed to address the fact that no has ever proved that God is not real and no one has ever proved that atheist is right.
You never raised the point, so I did not in fact fail to address it. As the only one claiming that something exists, the burden of proof actually falls to you entirely. Demanding that I prove the non-existence of God would be like demanding that I prove the non-existence of leprechauns and unicorns.
Look at it another way if you need to. Throughout human history there have been thousands of different religions, and there are still multiple different theistic "ways of life" today. For your God to be valid you necessarily have to reject all other gods; by your reasoning, in order to do that you must prove that those gods are not real.
Given that there have been literally thousands of iterations on the same basic theistic notion, atheism is hardly an unfounded claim. Add to that the growing body of scientific evidence that links the proclivity for religious belief to a particular genetic sequencing, and it is also a substantiated claim since we know as a matter of fact that religion is a byproduct of human neurology.
So if you can't prove anything about it then you have no right to speak.
If that were true, then you would have even less right than me. Fortunately, the actual legal right to free speech is not governed by that standard.
Have you ever heard the unicorn analogy? Here it goes:
Technically, you can't prove that unicorns don't exist. Maybe there is some other alien planet with unicorns right? Could you disprove the existence of some other realm, with unicorns?
At the same time, what you don't see is unicorns walking around everywhere. Other than of course putting an ice cream cone on a horse or a b-day hat. But you don't see naturally occurring unicorns with magical powers.
So, you don't assume they exist.
On the other hand, look at a Coffee Bean. We can see and feel the Coffee Bean's, as well as their Ice Blendeds and employees. We can physically hear the employees...
So, we assume for all practical purposes that it exists. Now...
Technically you can't prove that unicorns do exist either... But you don't see them walking on your lawn, or in nature, so its not something you assume.
Why didn't he turn the water into Apple/Orange juice or milk? Those are nutritious drinks. But He chose wine instead. There must be a reason He picked wine ;)
The reason God made water into wine is because back then, the thing that people drink was wine. And Jesus never said drinking was wrong. He said that getting drunk is wrong.
So doesn't mean anyone was drunk. And if you don't believe then, why do you know so much? And you can drink as much wine as you want just don't get drunk and make it the center of your life. When you have a problem just don't to turn to drinking wine. Some people drink and do drugs when their lives are getting overwhelming but Jesus says that's not going to help. Instead you give Jesus all of your burdens and he'll carry them for you. The things in this world will not be to your satisfaction for long. You should always turn to him.
A disbelief in a deity does not constitute a lack of purpose in life. Atheists find meaning in many activities such as art, academia, sports, relationships, ext. They just don't find it logical or convincing that a deity or God could have predestined them, is all powerful, all mighty, omnipresent, omnipotent, and both a loving, jealous, wrathful God. They find God to be too closely aligned with a flawed human nature as present in the Old testaments. He if full of unbearable contradictions such as him loving all equally where he dams all those who are non believers to hell. What a true act of compassion from a loving father is it not! Aside from the egregious belief that we should all life our lives by divine book or our religion, Atheists express the right for free thought and an open perspective for debate, permitting them to become worldly individuals aware of diversity of though and belief. When an Atheists dies searching vigilantly for a divine entity they are not to be punished for their inquisitive natures. Their disbelief in the proof of a God does not mean they are not open to the idea. Atheists have just as much to die for as a fundamentalist christian. They have human connections to the world and the multitude of its fascinating properties, human relationships: love, betrayal, forgiveness, redemption, aesthetic beauty of: nature, animals, art, interaction with the world through senses, the aroma of a fresh pizza, feeling of a cool breeze on a sunny day, fresh feeling of a cool dip in a lake, technology: improved human capacity to live, Biology, the drive to reproduce, grow strong and powerful, Advancement: creativity, ingenuity, will to power, new authority and wisdom,Uniqueness: we are all different in some way, there is no identical human, our capabilities we know little of and we are all special in the way we interpret and go through life, we all lead different lives, all our journeys head in different directions, Atheists like all others would like to stick around to see what wonders lie ahead.!
