This really depends on what factors you use to determine best. If it's based on record sales then it's a toss up between Beatles and Elvis, but then you said band, so that leaves the Beatles.

But what if we base it on the most plays on the radio? Or maybe we could base it on the amount of money the band made? Or we could just base it on opinion that way everyone who doesn't agree is automatically wrong? I like that one, let's go with it!! My vote's for Bon Jovi :)

All I have to say is RUSH! No one can argue that point at all!

While not technically a band, there would be no Beatles without Bob Dylan. John Lennon was obsessed w/Dylan, so much so that he dressed like him.

Muse. The only band I know of who's albums have been getting consistently better and better with every release. Black Holes and Revelations was an absolute masterpiece.

Special mention for Dream Theater as well, who I believe released the best album ever made (Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory).

The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Radiohead. . .these are all awesome bands. But no one has a larger catalog of top-rate songs than the Rolling Stones. The sound of the Stones damn near defines rock. There is a reason they are called The Greatest Rock Band in the World - - because they are.

Tool, is the best band of all time.

They're artistic progressive-rock is all you need to get lost in a trance. Soft sometimes, Heavy other times.

Songs like Eulogy, and H. show their true talent.

Consistently innovative sounds and moody atmospheres, fitting lyrics, beautifully eerie harmonies and maddeningly addictive melodies...what's not to like?

The best band ever has to be CAKE!! They are just an amazing and under rated band.

i agree that the Beatles are great! and no band can reach their level but lets not forget one direction! i mean they are the biggest boy band in the world and they did reach the top! i am not a big fan but they are talented.

Phish. One of the more underated, and at the same time overated bands ever. All in all, underappreciated. Performers of epic compositions in a rock band form, otherwise with the ability to write and perform any genre of music. Who else covers the Beatles White album for halloween? Not to be judged by their albums, but rather their careers as human musicians, touring, interacting with the fans...evolving. Truely the essence of Progressive Rock, or Progressive Music rather.

This sure is a loaded debate. Anybody who likes music probably has a favorite band. As for me, it depends on my mood.

In 1975, the Eagles released "One of These Nights". I fell in love with the brilliant work of the rhythm guitars. And 33 years later, depending on my mood, the rhythm guitars can still move me to "almost tears nirvana".
