Can Ignorance Be Good? Is Ignorance Always Bad?

Ignorance (lack of knowledge) can be fixed .... Stupid (willful ignorance) is forever ....

The fear (awesome respect) of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction ... Proverbs 1:7

.

earthly and heavenly wisdom .. part 1 of 3

earthly and heavenly wisdom .. part 2 of 3

earthly and heavenly wisdom .. part 3 of 3

.

JAMES 03:13-18 .. who among you is wise and understanding .. let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom .. but if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart .. do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth .. this wisdom is not that which comes down from above .. but is earthly .. natural .. demonic .. for where jealousy and selfish ambition exist .. there is disorder and every evil thing .. but the wisdom from above is first pure .. then peaceable .. gentle .. reasonable .. full of mercy and good fruits .. unwavering .. without hypocrisy .. and the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace

Wow...

How ironic that one of our resident religious nuts weighs in and lo and behold cites some verse!

Cuz I was gonna answer the debate question with a resounding YES!!!

That ignorance can indeed be bliss.

As in the cases of people like you.

Afraid to face life on lives terms, and petrified at the surety of our impending deaths in this world, you guys hide in the warm fuzzy but alas, ignorant and benighted cloak of your fantasy gods. And of the make believe afterlife he offers you.

If you're good little boys and girls.

Wow.

I would have to eat a lot of acid to be so far removed from reality.

So I often wonder how it would be for you?

People of near genius levels such as myself often think too much. Know too much. Keen intellect can indeed be a Burden at times.

So a cocoon of fantasy and magical thinking sometimes sounds alluring.

But without a frontal lobotomy I just can't go there. With you guys.

Hey..you never told me where your jerkoff God was during the Holocaust?

He didn't have time for that...but he helps YOU, eh?

Mmm hmmm.

I see.

Again.........wow.

"and petrified at the surety of our impending deaths in this world"

.... this is why I warn you .... petrified ?? .... sorry to say no skin off my nose

If you're good little boys and girls .... only for those who know they're not

People of near genius levels such as myself often blah blah .... lol Romans 01:22 .. professing to be wise .. they became fools

you never told me where your jerkoff God was during the Holocaust .... living in the hearts of those who fought and died defeating the Nazis and liberating the Jews as opposed to your god living in the hearts of those who would murder and enslave them: evolution = eliminating a supposed inferior species

I would argue that any knowledge which cannot be used to improve one's situation, and which the bearer finds unpleasant, can be claimed to be bad.

i think ignorance can easily be good. I'm going to give you the scenario from a book called "Flowers for Algernon" the main character is absolutely mentally handicapped. he works at a factory, where his co workers, Unbeknownst to him because of the mental capacity he possesses. he is chosen for a miracle drug to increase his intelligence. once this happens he notices that his "friends" are making fun of him, he loses his job, and he is overall different. to him ignorance was bliss.

I was wondering if anybody was literate enough here to bring up this example.

I recall discussing this topic back in high school; I never read it, but friends did, and I had to go on quite the rant to attempt to convince them that ignorance is bad. I found it then and I continue to find it shameful that a school would require a book which aggrandizes ignorance to be read by students who are more than content in their ignorance.

The problem with this example is, if he's being teased and doesn't know it, is he still being teased?

He might be blissful, but his bliss would be a lie.

If you're a liberal politician, ignorance is an asset; how else can they get elected?

But it is the conservatives who thrive on ignorance.

Ignorantly calling Obama a non-American-born alien.

Ignorantly proclaiming that Obama is too light on illegal immigrants (when in reality he is far, far tougher than any Republican President ever has been).

Ignorantly proclaiming that Obamacare is unconstitutional (even though the Supreme Court, the arbiter of constitutionality, declared contrariwise).

Ignorantly proclaiming that the poor are simply lazy, don't deserve anything.

Ignorantly supporting ignorant [thus spake McNamara] wars into foreign nations.

Ignorantly proclaiming that obstructionism is the best policy.

Ignorantly trying to secure religion in science education.

Ignorantly trying to marry government with religion.

Ignorantly making anti-anti-discrimination laws.

Ignorantly supporting the war-criminals that make up Israel.

Ignorantly supporting the death penalty despite all the evidence against it, and the basic fact that the jury system is extremely far from infallible and often ends up convicting innocent people.

I could go on all day.

There's reality, then there's what you think.

US to Iran: ‘You Can Have Your Missiles and Buy Them With US Dollars’

The Obama administration, ever eager to hand out more benefits to the enemies of Israel, the United States, and the rest of Western Civilization,

is now planning to help Iran obtain access to U.S. dollars — which will help Iran buy more on the international markets,

the Wall Street Journal reports today.

Yeah......blah blaah blah. I am sure you could go on all day.

And continue to be wrong.

Because I am a conservative and I advocate NONE of those points you erroneously claimed, claimed with typical Liberal elitist smugness.

Oh, politically I am a registered Independent voter. But I do hold mostly conservative stances.

Very few of us deny Obamas citizenship. Not that I like the guy, mind you.

I also abhore Obama Care, and deadly hope it gets repealed. But I can find no clause in the Constitution that it defies. Unless we bring up that whole life liberty and pursuit of happiness thing, and claim that forcing some of us to pay for insurance we don't want or be fined by the government is in constitutional.

I am also a combat veteran. I did two tours in OIF. And I do NOT support unjustified wars.

You basically don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Most of your points you attribute to us conservatives are straw men.

Maybe you need to put down your copy of Das Kapital and look up the definition of conservative?

I also gotta admit I have a hard time with foreign leftitsts criticizing my government.

Cuidado, maricon!

Gracias.

Hasta.

Eh, you could go Republican and keep the ignorance and add onto it religious, racial and class-based fear mongering.

You could, but it wouldn't reflect reality.
