I once read in the 'confess a secret' section of a magazine that a little girl jumped out of the closet to frighten her old granny. The look on her grans face showed something was wrong and so the little girl ran fearing she would get into trouble for scaring gran. The old lady had a heart attack and died.Years later the litle girl who has become a woman , says in her article that she has kept it a secret all her life..... Can Jokes Go Too Far? For this person it did.(poor kid) Beside that tho , Yes i believe so , as i have heard of many other cases where jokes have gone seriously too far , resulting in nasty injuries or un-desired results. Some people get carried away and forget common sense.

You don't forget common sense, those are just stupid people who can't think something all the way through.

Jokes can lead to death - I'd call that too far.

Side: Of course!

Jokes can kill. It's like a dagger and knife can kill. It can poison and corrupt if it goes far for a long time or much. Discipline does not because it counterbalances or counters jokes through self-discipline.

Have you seen the College Humor prank war series? They're coming very close to going to far.

Especially the sky-diving prank...

It can kill people, to say nothing of going too far.

Many celebrities are committing suicide because of some ill jokes that people say unconciously.

Which celebrities, specifically? Can you name any?

If you can, you would then have to prove that it was a joke that went 'too far' that was the specific, or at least a major, cause of the suicide (as opposed to, for example: mental illness).

And even if you can prove that in one instance a joke had caused the suicide of a celebrity, you could not expand that into a general rule. That is you could not say any more than that in this particular instance a joke had gone too far.

celebrities in China, Korea... etc

they are actually commiting suicide because of the word people say! like,, you should die, or why do u live.. It can hurt people, especially ones that appear on tv. Even if it;s not a general rule,, it has and it will continuously kill people. There's no such thing as a general rule in human society.(says in the humanities book.) people are all different.Their reactions, personalities.... Words can actually be the most threatening armament to people because it hurts people mentally.

It's all fun and games till someone gets hurt. So if something that started out as a joke kills someone, I no longer consider it a joke. Therefore a joke can only go so far before becoming serious. So yes, a joke can go "too far".

Side: Of course!

yes they can because if sombody was making a joke about my dad i would get very mad. and that is because he has past away and i would be ready to fight

My science teacher always cracks jokes at me when im walking down the hallway. He always says "How's the weather snowflake?" or "How's Tookie's snow bunny doing today?". Snowflake and Snow bunny, I hate that........

They could mean it as a "joke". It could be something mean, but than just say " it was a joke." That can hurt someones feelings.

Yes, it is CONSIDERED opposite of discipline and self-discipline. It can sever or severely affect discipline and self-discipline. Jokes are considered pranks as well. It is also a form of freedom of expression and freedom of speech.

Only if you let it.

Of course there is a time and place for everything. And if you're stupid you can make an idiot out of yourself. But weather words hurt you is up to you.

Very few jokes go too far.

People over react to jokes. It's people's reactions that go too far.

Side: Absolutely not!

No, if it's funny then it's not too far; and if it's not funny, it's not a joke.

It takes skill to talk in a sarcastic or joking way through writing, one you clearly don't posses.

Only if it truly is a joke, it cannot go too far. People have the choice of leaving an unpleasant joke situation most of the time, so the offense is there fault. However, if a 'joke' is truly malicious and sick, like chasing after somebody with a live chainsaw, then it is not a joke, it is a violation of another person's space and dignity.

Somebody once sent a joke to Mars.

An engineering team working on a $125 million Mars orbiter used English units of measurement in their calculations while NASA used the more conventional metric system.

The mismatch in measurements caused the orbiter to fire its engines too late to achieve orbit. Instead, it plowed through the Martian atmosphere, continued out beyond Mars and now could be orbiting the sun.

Oh man, that was hilarious!

George Carlin argued that absolutely not, and since he is the bomb, I tend to agree with the master of all comedy.
