Sure ya can. If you're right you're right in a debate. Or more specifically, if you present a more convincing argument and more facts than your opponent, you win the debate. Even if you happen to throw in a couple insults along the way. But it's just that, in a formal a controlled debate process, using an ad hominem is frowned upon, and will sometimes lose you points with the moderators or the judges, the audience, whoever. But sure, you can still win. The fact that you presented a more compelling and convincing argument on your position in the debate that did your opponent should not be erased just cuz you got a tad over zealous. Happens to me all the time here. I tear somebody a new one in a debate. I present supporting links and sources for my argument, but I also toss in a couple jabs along the way, just for fun. After all.....a guy's has got to live up to his name, right? LOL SS Side: Yes
