CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.

Anyone CAN be like him. Theoretically, anyone conscious of their actions can live a life free of sin (unless existence is a sin). But I no one has the will to, especially since Christianity grants blanket amnesty to sinners (as long as they are Christian).
Yes, absolutely. I am assuming by "Jesus" you mean perfect, gentle, kind, blah blah. But we wouldn't know if Jesus himself was perfect as much of what we know of him is hearsay.
chances are there are jesus like people walking around all over the place and you wouldn't know it. If a person was "perfect" they wouldn't be announcing it. They would be living humble quiet lives and you and I my never see or hear about them.
Who's to say that when and if you reached the enlightened state that Jesus was functioning in that you wouldn't be able to make miracles. Jesus used those miracles to convince his follower that he spoke the truth. A modern enlightened or "perfect" person my not need to do such things.
The argument centers around "become LIKE Jesus". What Jesus did is what we are capable of doing. "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." John 14:11-13. We can become like Jesus by being completely obedient to God. Can we take the place of Jesus - Savior for the world - No! We cannot accomplish the work God sent Jesus to do. Is this human perfection? No - God is a loving and caring God who forgives those who seek him. Our old nature continues to battle within us (per Paul) but we can repent, get up and start again. We cannot be a duplicate or clone of Jesus but our mission is clear - Go and tell. Just as Jesus came (in the flesh) and told the world by accomplishing God's task for him.
Many have. Modern messianic figures are virtually ubiquitous outside of first-world countries, and not uncommon within them. Who knows? Maybe someday, one of 'em'll manage a following to rival the Christians.
even if this guy walked on water it doesn't mean he is like Jesus. Jesus didn't sin, but ALL humans do. This guy(in the video) has sinned, since he is human, and therefore can't be like Jesus.
Let me rephrase the question for you then, can anyone become like Jesus (God in human form)? Where we or where we not created in his image? Or do you take that completely literal and think that the all powerful creator of the universe has a human form somewhere and when he created us in his image he just wanted us to look like him? Or do you think maybe he created us with the power and ability to become like him.
Considering the possibility that Jesus might have been nothing more than a preacher-philosopher, I would say it's quite possible, then, for anyone to be just like Jesus - especially if they can get a lot of people to write hyperbolized stories about him.
Speaking of which... Anyone here think anyone can become like Goku?
Of course. All you need are some creative people to come up with some outlandish and impossible stories about your life hundreds of years after the events unfolded and of course embellish on them ALOT. Then even you can be Jesus!
Steps to becoming Jesus: Just tell people you're the son of a divine creator, don't do anything morally wrong (besides the fact that you lied about being the son of a divine creator), and be publicly executed. Whether we should want to be like him is a different story.
“---Be imitators of God---, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Well, since people seem to be THAT stupid, clearly my post was a joke.
To me, if magicians didn't reveal their tricks, it would be likely that they could gain a following. Imagine if magicians just claimed they were Wizards? It would be up to the Cato Institute to show us all that magicians are actually just tricksters (too bad the Cato Institute didn't exist 2000 years ago).
If you believe in God and have the holy spirit in you and the faith to move mountains, you could live up to Jesus's name! absolutely! Jesus was a norman human being with feelings and emotions just like we are.
For sure, being Jesus is easy. Just go to some place you expect to find hermit or someone who knows witchcraft, and ask them to teach you, that's all. But there're lots of side effect for studying them. And by the way, this is how Jesus learn to show miracle in his teen life which wasn't written in the bible.
Jesus was a mortal man that supported a religion and did a superb job advertising for it. Anyone can become like Jesus because Jesus was, according to any viewpoint other than Christian, a normal man. He was not perfect, he simply portrayed himself as such to his followers. Many leaders, including Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr, and even Hitler became much like Jesus in the fact that they were incredibly charismatic, passionate, and self sacrificial. All religious aspects aside, those are truly the only traits needed to become "like Jesus".
According to Buddhism, anyone can become a Buddha. Anyone. And since I believe in neither religion, I hold them as equals. Since one asserts that you can be a Buddha, but the other doesn't even mention whether or not you can become like Jesus, I'm going to say that you can. If Buddha = Jesus and anyone can become a Buddha, then anyone can become like Jesus.
No one can become like Jesus because Jesus was perfect and we are not perfect. We all have sinned. Romans 3:23 says all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
We could follow His ways and understand all of what He did. But no one can become like Jesus.
There is a huge gap of time in the life of Jesus that was unrecorded. Could he not have sinned in that time and if he did why would that make it impossible to become who he was later?
Even if we accumulate sin through life but later repent can we not then be perfect or without sin again? What is the purpose of repenting if we are still sinful?
I can quote the Bible if I want to you can't stop me. We all have sinned. You are sinning too. Everday someone is sinning. No one goes one day without sinning. I hear everyday on the new that someone is killed or someone robbed a bank or did something wrong. That's sin right there killing someone stealing money or doing stuff that is wrong. I bet when you were a kid you sinned because you didn't listen to your parents. That is one of the ten commandments honor your father and mother. you are sinning right now because you choose to be an atheist and not serve God. I have sinned in my life. I disobey my parents when I was little. I stole something when I was little from the store one time.
Actually Jesus was the one who lived free of sin. The devil tried to tempt Him when he was wandering for forty days without food.
Romans 3:23 says For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
We were perfect before Adam and Eve sinned but since they choose to eat the fruit because the serpant tempted them we have sinned.
I can quote the Bible if I want to you can't stop me
No shit sherlock. Grow up. I'm trying to help you because quoting the bible as your sole argument without "why" makes you sound retarded and completely misses the point of "debate." There are plenty of Christian sites where you can all suck each other off with bible quotes if you like. Ideally on a debate site you are supposed to think about stuff.
We all have sinned. You are sinning too. Everyday someone is sinning. No one goes one day without sinning.
No I haven't. Prove it. You haven't even defined "sin".
I hear everyday on the new that someone is killed or someone robbed a bank or did something wrong. That's sin right there killing someone stealing money or doing stuff that is wrong.
So? There are 6 billion people on earth. If you hear about 1,000 people killing someone every single day it still doesn't mean all 6 billion have killed someone... or robbed or "doing stuff that is wrong"
I bet when you were a kid you sinned because you didn't listen to your parents.
Nope. I'm sinless just like Jesus and you can't prove otherwise. And even if I had "sinned" does not mean everyone who had ever lived had sinned.
That is one of the ten commandments honor your father and mother.
So? I don't believe the 10 commandments have any authority over what is or is not a sin. I think the 10 commandments are bs. So disobeying them would not be a sin in specific situations.
you are sinning right now because you choose to be an atheist and not serve God.
Actually I talked to god yesterday and he said Christians are sinning because they don't serve the flying spaghetti monster. He also said he's an atheist himself because he doesn't believe anyone created him, thus atheists are closer to god, thus they are sinless.
I have sinned in my life. I disobey my parents when I was little. I stole something when I was little from the store one time.
What's what you've done have to do with everyone else? You realize there are other people in the world right? Just because you have "sinned" does not mean everyone has.
Actually Jesus was the one who lived free of sin. The devil tried to tempt Him when he was wandering for forty days without food.
Never happened. It's a made up story. A fairy tale.
Romans 3:23 says For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
This does 0 for your argument because the bible is bs. Thus why I told you not to quote it. It hurts your argument, and you specifically have a way of making your religion look extraordinarily hideous. You'd actually do more to serve your invisible friend by pretending to not be Christian.
We were perfect before Adam and Eve sinned but since they choose to eat the fruit because the serpant tempted them we have sinned.
... so because two people who never existed ate a piece of fucking fruit, everyone ever born is evil?
Again, you have a way of making your religion sound hideous.
I am trying to help you because quoting the bible as your sole without "why" makes you sound retarted and completly misses the point of the "debate"
I don't need your help at all. I know the point of this debate no one can become like Jesus because ever because we have sinned.
You haven't even defined sin
Sin means you have done something wrong in your life. You have done something wrong. You are do something wrong right now being an atheist because you think that there is "no God".
Nope im sinless like Jesus
I thought you said Jesus and His story was a fairytale? You just contridicated yourself. Which is it? Do you believe that Jesus was alive or a fairytale?
Actually I talked to God yesterday and he said Christians are sinning because they don't serve a flying spaghetti monster. He also said he's an atheist himslef because he doesn't believe anyone created him, thus atheist are closer to God, thus they are sinless
How can you to talk to God when you yourself believe that God doesn't exist. Only Christians can talk to God because they have a relationship with God. Atheists are not closer to God its mostly Christians that are closer to God. And even if you are closer to God you still sin.
This does 0 for your argument because the bible is bs. Thus why I told you not to quote it. It hurts your argument.
Actually it does affect the argument and it doesn't hurt it because that Bible verse is true everyone sinned and we all fall short of the glory of God. Thanks for pointing out my invisible friend. He actually is my friend.
Seriously, why are you here? All you do is preach and you are a horrible preacher.
I don't need your help at all. I know the point of this debate no one can become like Jesus because ever because we have sinned.
Prove it.
Sin means you have done something wrong in your life. You have done something wrong. You are do something wrong right now being an atheist because you think that there is "no God".
Prove it's wrong to be an atheist.
I thought you said Jesus and His story was a fairytale? You just contradicted yourself. Which is it? Do you believe that Jesus was alive or a fairytale?
... do you know what contradiction means? I can share traits with any character, mythical or not.
How can you to talk to God when you yourself believe that God doesn't exist. Only Christians can talk to God because they have a relationship with God. Atheists are not closer to God its mostly Christians that are closer to God. And even if you are closer to God you still sin.
1. I pretend to talk to the imaginary character, just like Christians.
2. I don't believe Christians have a relationship with any god. It's a cult no different than druids or sun worshipers. You've said nothing to show otherwise... you actually do a great job of making my case for me.
3. Regardless the distance to or from god, you've not shown how everyone has sinned.
Actually it does affect the argument and it doesn't hurt it because that Bible verse is true everyone sinned and we all fall short of the glory of God. Thanks for pointing out my invisible friend. He actually is my friend.
The bible isn't true. It hurts your argument because you are not even attempting a logical debate, you are only repeating, poorly and inaccurately more time than not, a religion I do not share. I might as well quote verses of Twilight to you. That is how effective your arguments are.
Seriously why are you hear? All you do is preach and you are horrible preacher.
I am here because I debate over stuff what I think is right and wrong just like your here to debate here over what you think its right and wrong except I don't call people names and swear at them and I don't get angry. I don't always preach or quote stuff from the Bible. Sometimes I don't say anything at all about the Bible.
What is a debate? A debate is when 2 people argue and they try to get to each other to agree with each other. For example there might be a debate on the colors of the rainbow and I might say the colors are red, white, purple, green, and blue. You might say the colors are gold, silver, blue, orange, and violet. And you are trying to get the other person to agree with you and change there idea's and get them to think.
Prove it's wrong to be an atheist.
Psalm 14:1 says "A fool says in there heart that there is "no God". They do all kinds of horrible and evil things. No one does any good.
The bible isn't true. It hurts your argument because you are not even attempting a logical debate, you are only repeating, poorly and inaccurately more time than, not, a religion I do not share. I might as well quote verse of Twilight to you . That is how effective you arguments are.
Do you know why I quoted Romans 3:23? Were you paying any attention why? That verse says and declares that EVERYONE sins and fall short of the glory of God.
That means I have sinned you have sinned everyone on this debate site has sinned too.
A debate is when 2 people argue and they try to get to each other to agree with each other
No. I am going to quote an actual book with more credibility than the dubious Bible, which you're so partial of. Ok. According to the OED, "debate" refers to "a formal discussion of some question of public interest in a legislative or other assembly."
And you are trying to get the other person to agree with you and change there idea's and get them to think.
Try as you might, you still fail to give any good arguments for your claims. By "argument", I mean it in a strictly philosophical sense.
Psalm 14:1 says "A fool says in there heart that there is "no God". They do all kinds of horrible and evil things.
Do you know why I quoted Romans 3:23? Were you paying any attention why? That verse says and declares that EVERYONE sins and fall short of the glory of God.
Yeah, you don't always preach or quote stuff from the Bible huh?
The Bible can't be used as a source of fact in a debate since it has no backing to its claims. Quote it as many times as you want but you will never PROVE anything to anyone that way since it is based on faith.
i don't think there ever was a Jesus, but if there was, he was definitely not perfect. Have you ever read any of the so called lost holy books? They have found parts about Jesus when he was growing up that show he wasn't perfect by any means. For example when he was a kid he accidentally killed his friend.
Never said in the Bible that he killed his friend. Also God is perfect because He never sinned. If He sinned then He wouldn't be God because God would make the right choices and not the wrong choices.
I am going to ignore the fact that you fail to notice that there are other books beside the bible that exist in your own religion.
I was talking about Jesus not God. Get your facts straight. Jesus was the son of God. Not God himself. That would make no sense. Well less sense. But I have the feeling you were trying to say that Jesus was perfect because God is perfect and he wouldn't make an imperfect son.
The problem with that analogy is that we are all supposedly Gods children and we are all imperfect. Heck even the angels are imperfect. If they were perfect there would be no Devil because Lucifer would have never started a war against God.
God is perfect He is also incapable of sin but Jesus was capable of sin and there are no records (if you want to call the bible a record) of at leased 30 years of Jesus life. How do you know he didn't sin but was forgiven?
I can't. I saw it on the history channel years ago. The show had something to do with passages taken out of the bible over the years. It also referenced old scriptures no one ever reads anymore.
I shall thus assume your argument to be invalid as it is without proof. If you do ever find anything though please let me know, I would be interested to find out.
I do have proof. I just told you where you can find it. Go read some of the old scriptures and find forgotten or removed text and you will eventually find it. Just because your to lazy to look for it doesn't make my argument less valid.
Define 'old scriptures' and 'forgotten or removed text' you made no reference to where I could find them or what they even are - I could claim that unicorns exist and that you just have to look in the long, forgotten corners of the Internet to find them but would that really make my argument valid?
How can Jesus be 100% perfect. If he was perfect why didn't he save the ones who died, if he was perfect why didn't he save his self from dying. No one can be 100% perfect.
Well He didn't sin when He came to this world. The reason why He didn't save himself is because God turned His back on Jesus because He was suffering for our sins that He had on His shoulders.
He did save those who died the one's who are Christians won't be a part of this corrupted world and they will be in heaven.
Incorrect. Jesus did sin. And if he didn't then that'd be more reason for you not to believe the religion, at least in my opinion. I don't feel like getting too much into it right now, but here's a link for you to read, from a great site that I think you should check out.
Supporting Evidence:
Jesus Sinning
(www.religioustolerance.org)
Nearly everything the article mentions has to do with the Pharisees. They were never meant to be authorities on sin. In fact, there is a parable in which they are described to be good and faithful on the outside, but very unchanged and cold on the inside.
Can you be the son of God? No, obviously not as we are all human. Can you ever go a day without sinning? No, impossible, as all humans sin. Can you heal people, no matter what illnesses they have? No, we are not miracle workers like that. If Doctors were perfect, then no one would die from anything but old age. Can you be perfect? Definitely not. There aren't many ways in which anyone can be like Jesus. You could be slightly close, but there are so many amazing things about Him, that no human would ever come close.
Unfortunately the question is 'can anyone become like Jesus' instead of 'can someone become like Jesus'. I doubt that all six billion people on this planet can become like Jesus - or why they would all want to.
A reason not everyone could become like Jesus is because Jesus did very few things wrong in his entire life. This means that for someone to become the 'modern Jesus' they would have to start being like him from infancy. So they could not 'become' like him at all.
NO... The kind of Christ we know in the holy scriptures is a man of goodness and purity and there are none like that left. Even if we willed today it is almost impossible to be as good and pure.
If Jesus was the man they said he was nobody could be him because he was portrayed as perfect and performed miracles which we are not capable of (Faith healers are scammers).
I believe that no one can be as good as Jesus as he died for OUR sin so that we can be closer to god. Can anyone do that, i doubt so, although I'm not a christian, I want to be but what Jesus has did for us on the cross is something we can never do
im fat. trolololololol.. The minimum length for an argument is 50 characters. The purpose of this restriction is to cut down on the amount of dumb jokes, so we can keep the quality of debate and discourse as high as possible.
no! JESUS IS THE ONE AND ONLY MESSIAH AND HE IS COMPLETE! WE ARE NOT YET COMPLETE AND WE SIN EVERYDAY! WE ARE OUR HEAVENLY FATHER'S CHILDREN BUT WE SINNED FAR TOO MUCH AND OUR HEAVENLY FATHER STILL EXCEPTS US! BUT JESUS HAS NEVER SINNED. AT ALL!
Well, if they have some form of schizophrenia where they suddenly become the undead zombie son of some cosmic God who likes to build species and watch them kill each other, and how then goes on earth and starts pretending to walk on water... The yes, yes they can.
The question was can anyone become LIKE Jesus- not whether we can become Jesus. So your saying if we want to be like Jesus we have to be perfect? Personally, I believe Jesus sees us all just like him. If we do the things we wanted him to, we become like him. (Love thy neighbor, follow God's way, etc.)
It depends on your definition of "like" is if it's do the things like Jesus then probably not because in the bible it said that Jesus resurected Lazuras. But if your definition of like is act like Jesus such as spread the word of god or help the needy then yes
Just to clear things up for all you people who say that Jesus made miracles and therefor no man can be like him. Jesus didn't do miracles, God did miracles through Jesus, cant God do miracles through anyone he wanted to?
Assuming we take Jesus Christ in the sense of the literal Christian interpretation (Son of God) then no, no one can become like Jesus as Christianity describes the Christ as being part of the Holy Trinity and more than mere human in the spiritual sense. Furthermore, Jesus Christ is seen to be the sinless Man and that is something, in a Christian sense, that one cannot obtain hence the need for His Salvation.
If, instead, we take Jesus Christ in the sense of Islam the same answer reigns dominant as they described Jesus as a Prophet and Muhammad as the last Prophet and so by logical deduction if the something one is trying to become has become impossible to attain then one cannot become it.
So no, using the only two major references to Jesus Christ, one cannot become like Jesus Christ in the absolute sense.
No ebecause of Adam and Eve's sin we are ALL sinnners. And Jesus was NOT a sinner so whether that person was as good and pure as Jesus could not be exactly like him.
