Can bullies ever truly change their ways?

There's no doubting that the wounds inflicted on a child by a bully may never heal but if you were to meet former school bully many years later would you give them a second chance?

Um, of course. As children, people's brains aren't done developing. As such, their sense of morality is not full, and they are, scientifically, terrible people. Saying that no one could ever change is ignorant and just plain false. Do you still behave in the exact same way that you behaved in middle school? I hope not.

The reasons someone could be a 'bully' are extremely broad. Maybe someone was having troubles at home so they temporarily took it out on their peers. Maybe someone had watched a movie in which a bully was seen as cool and just hadn't learned that it was wrong yet.

Broad statements like "every single bully will be bad forever" are almost always false.

For the record I was just putting the question out there, it's not that I'm particularly against believing in someone's capacity for reforming their character. This was not a criticism I actually agreed with the points you made and I wasn't at all suggesting nor did I say no one could ever change.

Of course! That wasn't aimed at you at all, but at the people on the opposite side. I may have come off as a bit irate because I think the answer to this question is somewhat obvious. I have no problem with you. :D

In my opinion, when they become adults, plenty can change. Some, however, may prove to be incorrigible.

Bullies stay bullies forever just like a rotten apple stays so long rotten;maybe in the later years, their perspective ,mindsets are a tad bit changed but the same behavior remains ,even if it is suppressed

The bully-boy's sadistic behaviour is a congenital characteristic of his/her psyche' and, like the proverbial spots on a leopard cannot be changed. It should be noted that in most, not all, but most cases it takes two to enable the bully to enjoy his ''recreational sport''. That is the bully, and the person who let's themselves be bullied. In a physical bullying situation the victim should always lift the nearest heavy available object and bust it over the bully's teeth. If the bully recovers the intended victim may well get a hammering, but the thug won't be picking on him/her again. Bullies only chose easy, docile targets. In a verbal altercation the victim should always give at least as good as they get and retaliate with a no holes barred attack. Calling the bully's mother a ''lady of the night'' and his father a registered paedophile usually provokes a violent reaction at which point the victim can, for instance, justifiably stick an innocent object, such as an everyday ball pen, deep into the bully's eyeball. At this stage the war's over. Under these circumstances a plea of justifiable 'self defense' would have to be accepted.

Its an issue that often starts occurring during childhood, and unless you start directly informing children on how to treat others at an earlier age, it's not that easy to stop. Prevention should be a priority rather than AFTER something happens.

i agree they should try to prevent it but if you want proof they can turn around after they start just look at the post before this one!
