Two different technologies that solve two different problems.

1. Tablets, etc. are for internet content consumption.

2. PCs are for content creation.

Try to create one of the following with a tablet:

1. A Gangnam Style Parody video.

2. A Word document.

3. A spread sheet.

4. Music editing.

5. Intensive photo editing.

you get the picture? ;)

The evoultion of the tablet is really unknown, but the desktop is not leaving due its capablities, so the tablet could evolve into something similar to a laptop and replace it.

You cannot replace real computers with tablets since real computers are the ones that make tablets. More over, you have businesses everywhere that has servers and they will never user tablet. Not to mention that we have other types of computer that are not X86 base. Go figure!

Well, joecavalry, tablets CAN make a word document, a spreadsheet, edit music and edit photos intensively and if technology continues to develop, can very soon make a gangnam vid !! ;)

Side: Yes

Really? Without a keyboard and a mouse? I find that hard to believe. Maybe you can point me to your reference. If, however, it does require a keyboard and a mouse, then it is nothing more than a glorified netbook ;)

HA

Nope.

I don't think that the attraction of sheer computing power that comes with a desktop computer can every really be outweighed by the portability of a tablet computer.

Laptops, maybe. They definitely couldn't replace a good alienware laptop, But probably could replace a less powerful notebook computer. But laptops aren't going to go poof anytime soon I think.

Until you can use Word on a tablet they wont be replacing anything, I wouldnt be surprised if tablets got smaller and phones got bigger and replaced the smart phone similar to what Samsung did with the Galaxy Note

Laptops and PC's have keyboards and a mouse, therefore you can operate it with both hands. When it comes to a tablet you're nearly always holding it with one hand.

An iPad can replace a laptop because the battery life lasts an estimated 10 hours. Neither a laptop or an iPad can replace a desktop computer.
