Can you judge a book by its cover?

Yes

No

Normally, the clear answer is no unless on the cover, the title reads Bible.

Yes I will judge the book if the title is not related to the book what-so ever

Side: Yes

The cover has the genre, the reviews, the taste in title, the blurb...

Side: Yes

It depends who the author is. If you have a good book from the same author/illustrator and the cover of that book is the same sort of style as this one then the chances are that book will be the same sort of thing as the other.

Also, you cant not judge a book by its cover - we all do it naturally. If you have a Jacqueline Wilson book (Nick Sharratt is AMAZING) and then you have a v...e...r...y l...o...n...g book on the history of canals with a plain front, you'll obviously read the Jacqueline Wilson one. Then you'll realise your sister swapped the covers and what you thought was the history of canals is actually the Hetty Feather trilogy!

Yes. Imagine if the book cover was full of penises... or don't imagine. Either way, I would avoid that book.

Side: Yes

Yes, if said book has a cover illustrated with child-pornography.

Side: Yes

Why not?

The metaphor don't judge a book by it's cover means don't judge something on the way it it looks. But you see if your mom wants you to clean your room she is implying that your room is dirty therefore she would be judging a book by it's cover

You can certainly judge people, but not books.

Yeah, you can judge anything by it's cover, but that doesn't mean your judgement will always be accurate.

Of course not. Most textbooks have pictures of people having fun, but then once you open them ... :(

Not really you have to actually open the book and start reading it and then it will be good. I have opened many books that had awesome book covers yet the book didn't interest me so I put it back.

you can't judge a book by its cover because the title or the picture of a book doesn't show in some cases what it contains really inside , many writers try to put a controversial title to attract readers but when you start reading it you find out another story or opinion .

no you cant because, if a person may look mean and ruff or it doesnt matter how they look that doesnt mean you can judge them if you dont know them, and its like a book, i mean it may look boring but you wont know unless you give it a try :p

Side: No

well no, you can't judge a book by its cover. you see, people are not what they appear to be, at least not all of them! so you can't really know a person until you meet them and stuff...

My version of Animal Farm has a bunch of animals on the cover. Really with that name and that front cover you'd think it was a childrens book. To kill a mockingbird, mine has a mockingbird on it... I mean, you look at War And Peace and you think "Ooh a Napoleonic war novel!" No. You can't judge a book by its cover. You can sometimes get a vague idea. But that's about it.

oh...mhmm you mean a book...book...or do u mean...a person?...of its a book you mean, then naaah books are so deceiving! trust me, if you go for a book that looks so appealing, you wont be so happy for what's inside...but overall..you cant :D

And this contributes to the argument how...?

I personally think that you cannot judge a book by it's cover, although the cover in general will give a hint to the basic mood and idea of the book. If it features a person, it can give you hints about the main character(s). For example, many 'gossip books,' generally aimed towards teenage girls, will have hot pink covers and feature a 'hot' girl. In this case, you can get a basic idea of the plot, but it can tell you nothing about the quality.

Yes, we shouldn't judge a book by its cover. I've read few books which were good, by the way, but the cover, is not that good. I think you get interested to buy a book because of it's cover, but it doesnt necessarily mean that if it has a good cover, then it is a good book.

Side: No

No since human premonitions are not sufficient in understanding the contents of a concept. it requires a through study and understanding before being judged. One cannot decide justly with thinking hastily.

Side: No

Someone has to sit down and read a book before issuing a criticism about it.
