Can you truly "force" a person to do something?

"Why are you hitting yourself, why are you hitting yourself?" :)

hehehehehehehe ;)

Side: Yes

Sure. You can force them to die, by killing them. You can force them to remain in a particular location by obstructing their ability to leave.

Rape forces an individual to engage in sexual intercourse against their will.

To be fair, it could be said that these are all in fact limiting them from taking an alternate action rather than having them take an action, so how about this:

Those with phobias and certain mental disorders can be forced into episodes by displaying their triggers.

the thing with people with phobias and mental disorders is that what forces them to do an action is not a person, it's themselves. So you can force yourself to do something but you cannot control what some else does

So people don't kill people, guns do? Who pulled the trigger? Who had the intent?

Thank you for bringing up rape. There are so many survivors that can attest that they were forced.

Would you kindly?

Side: Yes

Yes. Rapists can force their victims to be raped. .

That's like saying robbers can force victims to be robbed. Being raped is not something you actually did. Especially since it wasn't your fault.

Side: Yes

Thank you. I appreciate that. Ive been told its my fault for so long. .

But if you think the answer is no, I'm sure you'd like the rape laws in Saudi Arabia.

Side: Yes

Truth serum. (Insert long ass unnecessary explanation here)

Side: Yes

yes of course

he/she maybe does not like to do this thing but they will do it

they could be obligated by corporal punishment for example...............

Yes why couldn't you? If we couldn't then slaves wouldn't have been around for thousands of years. In some places it's still going on

Being a slave is a choice. You are always choosing to do something, even if your choice is to do what someone asks and/or tells you to do. And by making your own choices, you are never forced to do anything, and always free.

During the initiation of slavery, one is asked... Do you value your life, or your freedom? And by choosing to live one would think that they'd chosen to be a slave, but that isn't true.

Because you always have a choice, you are never a slave, and even when put to physical work that you would rather not do in your life, you're always free of mind.

They are forced into making a choice. And that's whether to live being a slave or die free

Even a slave has a say so in whether they want to do any certain action or not. Slave owners do not truly force their slaves to obey, they simply instill that if they do not do what is asked of them they will be punished accordingly which crates a fear in those slaves that causes them to chose to obey rather than get punished

Side: No

My first instinct was to choose yes, but .. then I thought about it for a while.

You can of course point the gun at someone and make them do stuff, but they can always choose to not do it and be shot instead, so in a way they still have options, and that is .. kind of the opposite from ''to force''

You can make people do stuff they don't wanna do, but you can't force them.

Nicely stated. I see what you are saying. I could hold a gun to your face and say "pick up that rock", but in practicality I didn't force you to pick up the rock, you made the choice to pick up the rock.

You also have to put the outcome of the situation in mind. You had the choice to pick the rock up or not. But if you didn't pick the rock up you'd be shot. The person behind the gun knows you want your life. So by giving him a choice to pick the rock up or not, he's forcing him into making the choice to live. Which by definition he would be forcing him to do something

You can force them to choose. The choice is their's but having to make it was all on you.

Yeah that's true.. but if someone says ''pick up that gun or I'll shoot you'' If they didn't pick up the rock .. does that mean they chose to be shot or they didn't choose at all?

I don't know if that makes sense, but for me, I often don't do stuff because I can't really decide if I wanna do it or not .. resulting in me not doing it. Understand?

Side: Yes

So rapists dont force their victims to do sex stuff? .

Side: Yes

The victim isn't required to do anything to be raped. It is really bad and traumatic, but you don't have to actually do anything for it to be bad and traumatic.

It isn't really sex once it is rape.

I didn't really think of that when I wrote my argument, but .. I don't know.

I've never been raped, so I can't really say if they deliberately force you, or just trick you into doing stuff you don't really want to do, or maybe threaten you to do stuff you don't wanna do. But like I said, fortunately I have no way of knowing.

It is not possible to truly force anyone to do anything. You can deeply convince someone by threatening their life or anything important to them, but it will always be their decision if they want to take that risk and listen to you or not listen to you
