Child Beauty Pageants

Do you feel that beauty pageants for young children are to much? Do you enjoy watching girls as young as two years old dressing sexy and dancing around the stage?

I don't see why beauty pageants are any worse than soccer, football, basketball, baseball, chearleading, singing or any other kinds of competitions.

In a soccer competition you are trying to be better than everyone else, and if you aren't good enough you're gonna lose.

It is the same in all the other competitions I mentioned above.

I don't see the difference between trying to be better than everyone else, than trying to be prettier than everyone else.

You will not be sadder if you lost a beauty pageant, than if you lost a game in basketball.

Second of all, I don't see the bad thing with showing your beauty. Yes of course, the make up is a little to much. But some can sing, some can play and some are really pretty. I admire pretty people, I am not pretty myself, and if I were, I would probably join a beauty pageants.

Because why hide a pretty face ?

These activities put an actual skill to test, pageants are only about appearance, there are no skills involved.

Say there were though, okay, then let the child learn those valuable lessons from these other sports which do not also teach vanity and which to a far lesser degree attract pedophiles.

Children get nothing from a beauty pageant they could not get elsewhere, and it seems to me has a whole lot of unnecessary negatives for a child.

Cosmeticians, modelling, fashion experts, hair designers, make-up artists or designers ?

I bet some of those children may dream of being one of those three .. or maybe something involved with that. What I mean, if you dream of being a model, a beauty pageant can do magic on the resume.

Maybe you would say there aren't any skills. But if you want to be something involved with beauty, fashion or something else in that direction, a beauty pageant is .. useful.

Say there were though, okay, then let the child learn those valuable lessons from these other sports which do not also teach vanity and which to a far lesser degree attract pedophiles.

What ?!?!?!? more pedophiles ? What about cheerleading ?

What about all other sorts of sports where women where tiny skirts, like gymnastics ? In MOST sports, women wear tiny outfits.

In beauty pageant .. they MOSTLY wear dresses. When I've watched a beauty pageant, most girls wore full length dresses. I will admit, that the dresses had holes on the back and stuff .. but nothing you haven't seen before, and seriously nothing you don't see in a gymnastics competition.

What valueable lesson do you get from losing a football game?

The same lesson you get from losing a beauty pageant.

You both lose, you both get up again and try harder next time.

Try harder to be pretty, you might ask?

Beauty pageants aren't all about looks. It's about how you walk, how you talk and everything else.

Children get nothing from a beauty pageant they could not get elsewhere, and it seems to me has a whole lot of unnecessary negatives for a child.

What negativs ?

That they want to be prettier than everybody else ?

They will have that no matter what .. beauty pageant or not, most girls will want to be pretty, and most girls will want to be prettier than everybody else too.

Plus, recent competitions test other variety of skills and personality within the contestants... Most of them end up being humans/nature/ animal rights activist. Call them insincere for all they care, as long as their message are heard. Beauty transcends culture, geographic location and skin color. It is pretty much universal. some find this an escape from poverty and a chance to be known.

Nothing which could be gained at a pageant could not also be gained at home.

And no, it teaches vanity first and foremost. There are other factors that lead to various activist proclivities outside of whether they were in a pageant. I believe it is a false correlation.

In that case, even WITHOUT the pageant plenty of people are already taught by themselves vanity and self-worth.Deny all you want but 'pageant' appears almost everywhere acting, modelling, reality tv, music industry, MTV and you will not notice how much money and time they spent to make themselves look good and also direct and indirect competition they have with one another...And true social contribution can be done anywhere but if YOU ARENT FAMOUS WHO IS GONNA LISTEN TO YOU. You need some sort of organizational support to nail it, this is just one of them whether you like it or not. And so if these pageant girls lack the commercial skill and would like to find a career in the pageant, WHY NOT?

Side: For

The parents are the ones pushing their little divas to these Little Miss Sunshine contests. Say, if the child is happy, then I don't see any harm.

Side: For

I hate child beauty pageants, they take the "fun" out of being a child, at least i think, because the child is only focused on being better, prettier, and richer than anyone else. There is no teamplay involved, they just want to win. NO sportsmanship whatsoever, and they are going to turn into something i do not want to describe on this site, later in life.

Like "Honey boo boo child" Its ridiculous, total manipulation and exploitation.

i agree with this statement because no child should be looking like a clown or thinking they grown

totally true!!! i do not want my daughter or sister or any one else's daughter or sister to become a fake barbie!!! urgh!

First off, craftly worded at the end there.

Secondly; I believe all pageantry is ridiculous. Add children to the mix, and eh, yeah.

It's a den of pedophilia and moms who are more concerned with their own sense of self-worth than their child's well-being.

If one has a child who likes to dress up and look pretty, absolutely nothing wrong with that, but they would be just as happy doing that in the safety and comfort of their home.

Sounds like a narrow generalization. and children have their say of whether they want to join or not so it is at the end of the day their choice, this goes the same for piano lessons or violin lessons . Or else they wouldnt end up being Miss Universe when they grow up just out of mommy's order alone. Girls like the attention of looking good just so you know, and if a mother support that they would be even be happier.

Kids that age do what their parents tell them to do. And a parent is perfectly capable of forcing a child to do something they don't want to do. The idea that 5 year old girls know what the fuck is going on around them is just stupid.

Or else they wouldnt end up being Miss Universe when they grow up just out of mommy's order alone

That doesn't even make sense. And a girl can learn everything she needs to know about becoming Miss Universe or whatever when she's older. It's not a skill you need to train for from childhood.

Girls like the attention of looking good just so you know, and if a mother support that they would be even be happier.

Not five year old girls. Those girls crave the attention of their parents and they see their parents like it so they play along. They'd be just has happy having "pageants" at home with just their family if it's that important to them (which it isn't).

This is nothing but crazy ass moms projecting their own insecurities onto their kid and trying to fulfill their sense of worth through them. It's pathetic and should be outlawed.

Side: Against

It's disgusting. There should be a minimum age of like 14. It's just for perverts to watch toddlers dance around cuz thats what sickos like them get off to. Also, its just for ugly ass women to exploit their little girls because they were so hideous when they were little they never got to experience beauty. I mean, have you see that little bitch Honey Boo boo's (or whatever the fuck her name is) mom? She looks like a beanbag chair with eyes.

They're absolutely pitiful. I feel sorry for any young girl who is forced to be part of one. And who are we kidding? Of course they're forced. And those male panel judges probably go home and beat off to the kids who performed on stage. Disgusting.

beauty pageants are dumb and useless to be held in the first place. if there's something for charity, maybe that'd do some good to it but otherwise, there is nothing really to a pageant.

also, if one includes children in them, it would turn out worse. most of the girls would feel bad if they don't win. every girl has the right to feel pretty, and by putting them into such stupid competitions, they'd feel low and depressed after not winning.
