1) In communist countries, there are always shortages of resources such as food which is why chinese people subsist on things like bats and pengolin fetus soup (both of which are culprits for where the virus came from).
2) Central planning is inherently inefficient and thus contributes to unsanitary and hazardous situations and practices.
3) The totalitarian communist regime tried to cover up the outbreak, and since communists completely lack morals I wouldn't put it past their government to have made the virus in a lab and lied about it.

Communism as a system in itself does not mean any country wherein the state is run by a political faction that claims to be ideologically communist, communism in and of itself means that there is no state or class and there is full community ownership over the means of production.
