Could Texas thrive independently?

Texas may be able to survive and thrive independently. They have land, energy sources, decent water sources, a thriving agriculture business and ranks pretty well in the unemployment ranks. Yes, I would think they could make it!

I think things would get ugly for Texas pretty fast. Separatists may think that a "free Texas" would be just like Texas is now but free, but I don't think that would be the case. The reality of replacing all the services that federal government provides would be quite a wake up call. They would just be replacing a federal government have a "more powerful" state government. If conservatives were in power, Texas rich would get richer, and the poor workers would get poorer. In 10 years most of the population (the poor worker) would be voting to rejoin the US.

Side: Would this weaken Texas?

Texas could not survive on being independent from the United States.
