Decaf coffee: lame, or an acceptable compromise?

Does drinking decaf defeat the purpose of coffee?

I work at a coffee house, and it always annoys me when people order decaf coffee. Part of the experience of consuming coffee is getting the caffeine kick. If you don't want the caffeine, drink a different beverage— preferably one that tastes better. Coffee isn't good for you whether it's caffeinated or not, so why not get the buzz if you're going to take the hit to your health?

That's like smoking a joint without any THC. WTP?

For those of you that are not Internet savvy, WTP means, What's the Point?

Now why would anyone have down voted that excellent analogy, with a bonus piece of random info to boot. I up vote the down vote.

If you're trying to kick the habit, but are still used to a hot beverage in the morning, Decaf can be a good idea.

I don't know where you ever got the idea that coffee, regular or decaf is bad for you. Read what the Mayo Clinic has to say about coffee, both types. The two choices you give are more Lame-O than your argument! Why should drinking decaf be lame? Many people drink half decaf and half regular so they don't overdo the daily amount of regular that is recommended.

The fact that you work in a coffee house certainly doesn't make you an expert on anything. But to say that people who drink decaf are annoying to you because they're not getting their kick from the caffeine is ludicrous. Have you never entertained another aspect of drinking coffee? The flavor! That's the number one reason people drink coffee...it tastes good!

Decaf is a welcome substitute to the real thing. Especially if you try to quit the habit or if you need to stop drinking it for health reasons. For instance when a woman discovers she is pregnant.

It can be useful sometimes because you may not want a caffeine kick or you are trying to quit.

Maybe not all the time because some say it can lead to heart disease but not because its lame.

If caffiene bothers you, for example and allergy it makes sense to be able to enjoy coffee without the negative effects. Another example might be someone who is pregnant and not supposed to have large amounts of caffiene.
