Detroit , Michigan is a wasteland

U.S. Census Bureau based on variables including crime rates, employment growth, access to restaurants and attractions, educational attainment and housing affordability, 24/7 Wall St. identified America’s 50 worst cities to live.

Perhaps it's not a surprise, but Flint and Detroit make the top 10. Income is crucial to quality of life, the study says, because of its impact on job security, housing, education, crime and safety.

What has Democratic rule really done for the cities of Flint and Detroit. Anyone really know.

Detroit is the liberal version of Reagan's "Shining city on a hill." Job well done, Democrats, job well done. Next?

Do you know what globalization is, out of curiosity?

HighFalutin(3402) Clarified

Yup. Because of liberal policies, unions and miscellaneous and sundry misguided liberal objectives, jobs were off-shored to more competitive countries. Unions drove the cost of labor up to the point they were no longer competitive. That's why companies manufacture overseas where wages are lower and, therefore, better for the bottom line and consumers.

Thank you for allowing me to enlighten you.

Lololololol. Yes, in 8 short years Obama has turned Detroit from a shining city into a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

What we have now in this country is two parties: one for college educated people and one for rubes.

Proves you don't know shit about my city.

Have you ever even been here?

NO.

And Obama had nothing to do with the delcine we have undergone--but will bounce back from! In fact, he with his TARP Bailouts actually SAVED some of our auto manufacturers from going bankrupts.

The American Automobile market began its decline from power long before Obama took office. The initial seeds were first sowed in the 70s. You need to read more on this before you spout your ignorance.

I've been to Detroit a whopping one time and it was an interesting and sad city. To blame it on Obama? Come on that's ridiculous, talk about grasping at straws. I truly hope Detroit is making a comeback. I know corrupt politicians (NOT Obama) where a huge reason for its decline.

Dude. Rotflmao. I was being sarcastic about his obviously stupid and ignorant comment blaming Obama for what was really the result of decades of structural economic change and free trade.

Democrats ruined the pusshole you call home and you can't deny any of it Democrat.

Detroit didn't become a wasteland until we had a Republican President that ignored Wall Street regulation and nearly destroyed the auto industry. After that Detroit was unlucky enough to get stuck with a Republican Governor who "taxed" the people with a water price that drove them from their homes, then did even worse to Flint! Hopefully, the Dems. can rebuild what's left!

Detroit is my hometown and is one of the Greatest cities in the Nation. Perhaps THE Greatest.

While we have undergone a rough patch recently, we will return!

Stronger and better than ever.

Most people who knock my town have never been here. Hence, they--including you--speak about shit they know nada about.

Read up! See why Detroit ROCKS!!!!!!!

Detroit’s last GOP mayor was Louis C. Miriani, a son of Italian immigrants, who served from 1957 to 1962. By the time he left office, the Republican brand was ebbing in Detroit, one of the country’s most Democratic-dominated cities.

54 years of Democratic rule and you say your city rocks.

And for all of you who are a little slow on the uptake, like Hellno/Outlaw/Cooper....and need some education on the Great Detroit, which I doubt ANY of you have ever been....here is some more info on why We. Are. The. BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah....my beloved Detroit Red Wings are probably the finest sports franchise in the nation. Along with the Lions, of course.

Where the Bongo goes, deadly crime, poverty drug dealing follows shortly afterwards. They came up from the southern states and infested many of the once great and prosperous cities such as Detroit and Chicago, then turned them into third world, crime ridden hell holes. The Bongo wallows in filth, poverty and crime. There's no point in trying to describe these sub-classes in euphemistic terms as by doing so only clouds the truth about the true psyche' of the Bongo. They lack the personal discipline necessary to engage in formal education. They do not have the executive skills required to form effective local government nor establish legitimate successful businesses which could provide their communities with the revenue to finance public services. ''I have a dream'', I have a dream that someday the blacks will all return to their beloved Africa and let America prosper once more. It's a nice dream, but unfortunately it's only a forlorn dream.

Colorful nocturnal inhabitants indeed!

But I would prefer taking a visitor to the RenCen area to show him some of my city's better points. And you and I are probably the only ones here who know anything about Motown, Mr. Saint. These guys only know about 8 Mile from the eponymous movie with Marshall Mathers. (otherwise known as Eminem.)

For non-commercial areas, as far as neighborhoods, I would show people maybe Bloomfield Hills in the North, or....MY 'hood: Gross Pointe, which is out East. And of course, out to the West we have the illustrious Ann Arbor, which is home to my alma mater, UM.

Downtown, I would show them the Riverfront area. And then take in a nice ballgame at Comerica and see the Tigers. (The Motor City Kitties!)

And yeah, I miss ol' Tiger Stadium, and saw my first big league game there when I was 9 years old. I remember Cecil Field jacked two homers and we clobbered the Yankees.

I miss old Cobo Arena though, where as a kid I lost many brain cells watching rock concerts and smoking dope. The Pistons don't play there any longer, but my Wings still take the ice at the renovated Cobo Hall Complex.

After a busy day of seeing the sights, a nice drink at the revolving bar atop the Westin Hotel in the RenCen. (made semi-famous for the scene where George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez met for a drink in the movie "Out of Sight.")

Ahh.....I love me some Detroit. No place like it on Earth.

Thanks to the debate author for reminding me how awesome it is!!
