Thus, Orwell’s experiences in Spain convinced him not that socialism was a false ideal, but that the Soviet Union and the Communists had betrayed that ideal. Orwell “was a socialist but, ever since Spain, an anti-Stalinist socialist and his hostility to Communism was a pervasive feature of his political writing” (Newsinger, Orwell’s Politics 97). He thought that “Communism is now a counter-revolutionary force” (Orwell, “Spilling the Spanish Beans” [1937] 67), working against socialism. He became inspired to expose their duplicity and conniving, and he related the theme of the Soviet betrayal of the cause of socialism with the totalitarian rewriting of the past:

The Communist movement in Western Europe began as a movement for the violent overthrow of capitalism, and degenerated within a few years into an instrument of Russian foreign policy. (“Inside the Whale” [1940] in Essays 233f., quoted in Newsinger, Orwell’s Politics 113)

He furthermore referred to “Russian Communism . . . [as] a form of Socialism that makes mental honesty impossible” (Orwell, “Inside the Whale” 235), and so Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four were written not as defections from socialism, but as attempts to redeem true socialism from the betrayal of the Communists.

Exactly, you goddamned idiot. Because they weren't actually Communists. They'd instituted a state capitalist system. Congratulations on debunking your own Nazi bullshit once again you demented fascist imbecile.

Meet Fritz Thyssen:

Fritz’s father, August Thyssen, headed up the Thyssen mining and steelmaking company that his father, Friedrich Thyssen had founded. The city of Essen in the Ruhr served as company headquarters and by the eve of World War One, the company employed 50,000 workers and produced one million tons of iron and steel yearly.

August expected his son Fritz to follow in the founding father’s footsteps, so he sent Fritz to London and Berlin to study mining and metallurgy. After Fritz served in the German Army for a short time, he went full time into the family business. In 1900, Fritz married Amelie Zurhelle, the daughter of a factory owner and their only child Anita was born in 1909. Fritz once again joined the German Army in 1914, but was discharged with a lung condition.

Fritz Thyssen Meets Adolf Hitler and Joins the Nazi Party

Fritz matured into a political conservative and a German nationalist. In 1923, he met former General Erich Ludendorff who urged him to attend a Nazi Party meeting that featured a speech by Adolf Hitler. Hitler’s speech and his bitter opposition to the Treaty of Versailles impressed Fritz, and he began to donate large sums of money to the Nazi Party.

Bush Family Links to Nazi Germany: “A Famous American Family” Made its Fortune from the Nazis

Of relevance to an understanding of America’s insidious role in supporting Nazi Germany. This article was first published on GR in March 2016.

*

“A famous American family” made its fortune from the Nazis, according to John Loftus’ documented historical analysis.

The Bush family links to Nazi Germany’s war economy were first brought to light at the Nuremberg trials in the testimony of Nazi Germany’s steel magnate Fritz Thyssen. Thyssen was a partner of George W. Bush’s grandfather Prescott Bush:

From 1945 until 1949 in Nuremberg, one of the lengthiest and, it now appears, most futile interrogations of a Nazi war crimes suspect began in the American Zone of Occupied Germany.

Multibillionaire steel magnate Fritz Thyssen-the man whose steel combine was the cold heart of the Nazi war machine- talked and talked and talked to a joint US-UK interrogation team.

… What the Allied investigators never understood was that they were not asking Thyssen the right question. Thyssen did not need any foreign bank accounts because his family secretly owned an entire chain of banks.

He did not have to transfer his Nazi assets at the end of World War II, all he had to do was transfer the ownership documents – stocks, bonds, deeds and trusts–from his bank in Berlin through his bank in Holland to his American friends in New York City: Prescott Bush and Herbert Walker [father in law of Prescott Bush]. Thyssen’s partners in crime were the father and [grandfather] of a future President of the United States [George Herbert Walker Bush]. (John Loftus, How the Bush family made its fortune from the Nazis: The Dutch Connection, Global Research, February 2002, edit by GR)

The American public is not aware of the links of the Bush family to Nazi Germany because the historical record has been carefully withheld by the mainstream media.

In September 2004, however, The Guardian revealed that:

George Bush’s grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.

The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

His business dealings, which continued until his company’s assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.

The evidence has also prompted one former US Nazi war crimes prosecutor to argue that the late senator’s action should have been grounds for prosecution for giving aid and comfort to the enemy. ( Ben Aris and Duncan Campbell, How the Bush’s Grandfather Helped Hitlers Rise to Power, Guardian, September 25, 2004)

When Thyssen met Hitler, Adolf was giving speeches standing on a wooden box on a street corner in Berlin. Thyssen bought Hitler a meeting hall, gave him a whole lot of cash and the Nazi party was off and running.

@ KittenGirl - Listen up moron: First on Hitlers list were Communists, Social Democrats and trade union leaders in that order. Jews suffered the most but they were not the first to suffer.

If you claim that Hitler went after capitalists or industrialists then NAME THEM.

This is what I mean when I say that America is crazy. There's a situation in effect where, however solid and factual a claim is, there's an equal and opposite claim, and the medium being used to determine fact from fiction isn't science: it's popularity.

First on Hitlers list were Communists

Same with Mao and Lenin. They intentionally took out the revolutionaries so there wasn't another revolution.

Oh, and there's more. What's this?

It was the capitalists you dirty fascist scumbag.

Hitler and his party received lavish donations from wealthy benefactors at home and abroad.[7] The iconic American car maker and anti-Semite Henry Ford was reported to be one of the foreign supporters.[7] Helene Bechstein, part of a rich aristocratic family who sold pianos, supported Hitler financially.[7] The Ruhr steel barons Fritz Thyssen and Gustav Krupp donated almost five million Reichsmarks to the Nazi Party over the course of the war.

He freely admitted that Nazism, like Communism, was socialist

Utterly pathetic. Orwell knew nothing about German politics, had never been to Germany and had absolutely no direct experience of the Nazi political system. He was a British writer.

But here you are cherry-picking lines like "he freely admitted" as if it does not even need to be scrutinised whether or not he knew what he was talking about. Orwell's opinion is as valid as anybody else's, but he was not a form of intellectual authority on Nazism, Germany or politics.

So are you. He lived then and was in the military, and wrote about Germany at the time. You live now and live in a basement. If he knew nothing, then neither do you genius. He also spent time in Germany. STFU you brainless piece of dog shit.

The fact that the world-renowned English author George Orwell spent three months in France, Germany and Austria in 1945 as a war correspondent is publicly known. What is not widely known are the details of where Orwell stayed and exactly what he did during his time in Germany.

"Nazism can be defined as oligarchical collectivism. . . . It seems fairly certain that something of the same kind is occurring in Soviet Russia; the similarity of the two regimes has been growing more and more obvious for the last six years.
