Do You Support Gov. Brown's Decision to Grant Illegal Immigrants Financial Aid for College

Should children who were brought to the U.S. illegally be eligible for private loans for college? California seems to think so.

I see no reason why not, Granted they pay taxes and and came here under the care of a guardian or when they were a minor. They should also be in the process of gaining citizenship or lawful status.

If the above conditions are meet, it would only mean positive things for this country. Like improving inter-generational mobility, not shipping away practical Americans who were raised here but not born here, etc.

They shouldn't receive special scholarships by the government because of their illegal status however.

The USA should be the land of opportunities. People who illegally immigrate to another country often bring their children. Should these children be denied perspective in their lives, in other words: be punished for something their parents did and therefore be disparaged for the rest of their lives?

The problem of segregation is big enough as it is. Not giving these children the same opportunities as their 'legal' counterparts will not only cause more poverty and regular crime, but also divide people, leading to more hate crimes. I was always taught that education can make the world a better place.

When someone says you are illegal or you are not allowed to live "here" or anywhere, i think of God. I believe in God and that this is God's land and not yours. Although this argument is weak, i truly believe that this land belongs to God and he says that everyone can live here. Or that he implied it.

I'd love to think that way. I'd love to illegally immigrate to Japan, with open arms, but I can't do that, because there are laws.

Well, in your description you put "private loans". If they are private... it should be up to whoever is giving out the loans... not the government.

If you mean subsidized loans, I would still not see a problem. They still have to pay it back, and depending on how long it will take them, it will build interest. Loans make whoever's giving out the loans money. It's kind of win-win.

However, if it a subsidized loan would that not be taking funding away from one who is here legally and is therefore legally entitled to that subsidized loan?

Only if the loan system were fund limited enough to cause that to happen, which it generally isn't. Scholarships are short on money... loan departments? Not so much considering they keep getting what they give out back with interest.

No. Being in the UNited States without permission is against the law. Giving tuition to noncitizens would be a reward. Our own citizens kids sometimes fight and don't get scholarships.

Absolutely no.

The children of illegal immigrants didn't choose to come here illegally.

They are not being awarded for their actions, rather they are not being punished for their parent's actions.

The children didn't break the law. And the key words are "private" financial aid, which implies they earned it, those are hard to get, and "loan" which means it is paid back over time, with interest in fact. Now you are a republican and a christian, so likely things like scholarships, grants, and aide for higher education is like speaking Mandarin to you, but it implies they are exceptional in some way. Why wouldn't the US want to keep the brightest potential students? It's just dumb, shooting yourself in the foot, reactionist anti-logic.

We should grant citizenship to those who want to join the military as well.

Side: yes

I would not want that happening over here, I am not fond of such a thing. Illegal Immigrants should receive nothing but a one way trip back to where they came from.

I am also expecting a public outcry against it, assuming the people feel as I hear they do.

Absolutely not. Our great nation cannot survive if people are living here without paying taxes to maintain our own existence.

Illegal immigrants don't pay into the system, and maintain no protected visa. Why should the be allowed the right of any government function?
