Do online political discussions provide a more unbiased view than traditional media?

Online political discussions and news are becoming an increasingly important factor in how US voters choose who to vote for, as evident from a recent study done by Equation Research. What's your opinion on the issue - are online media and discussions a better source of information to base your civic decisions upon?

Actually, I think online political discussions are likely to give you a more biased view. The reasons for this (I beleive) are:

1. Only certain demographics have access to computers

2. Only certain demographics care about politics (who have computers).

3. Generally, people who frequent a site have similar or common interests, goals, time constraints, etc.

Therefore, while you might get two sides to each political item, they may be more or less polarized due to the above.

If you take into account that many people who discuss politics online also watch traditional media then no. Of course this isn't to say that everyone listens to it or watches it to begin with. The thing is that people who are already biased will remain biased even when using a different medium to share their beliefs.
