This is my personal experience but I have been thinking about this a lot lately and noticing that lots of people have tendency to make a caricature of the things, ideas, or people they do not understand. They take their incomplete knowledge and expand it to encompass a broad category, because it comforts them to have a preexisting frame of reference when they come up against something or someone new or unfamiliar. I try to avoid this as much as possible but I think pretty much everyone does it. Side: yes
I believe that people generalize about a lot of things. Boys in general are more sporty, active people, while females in general are smarter, and more professional. Old people in general have grey hair and hip replacements. African American people in general are good at basketball, while Asians in general are very smart and good with computers. Now some of these examples may not necessarily be true, but that's definitely what people generalize. So on the whole, I would say that people generalize too much. Side: yes
