Um. No.

Free press is when the media reports facts and only the facts, absent any form of ideological bias. It is not the media's job to tell the people what to think. It is the media's job to present facts so that the public can make up its own mind.

We have a free press.

Bullshit. This was disproved by Ed Herman and Noam Chomsky in 1988 with a thorough academic analysis of the last half century's worth of media. All information must pass through five filters before it is permitted eligible for public consumption.

1) Ownership. The information must not be contrary to the interests of the owner.

2) Advertising. The information must not be contrary to the interests of the advertisers (since advertising is what predominantly funds the media).

3) Sources. In the age of the rolling 24 hour news cycle, media has become increasingly reliant on key sources for information. Media cannot afford to alienate these key sources and will not, as a general rule, bite the hand which feeds them.

4) Flak. By attacking the media every time it strays from the political right, the American right has effectively been able to cause the media to balance unbalanced facts, for fear that it will be accused of being left wing or liberally biased. This has been going on for decades.

5) Ideology. If it doesn't fit in with pre-existing American ideology, it is unlikely to be printed or aired.

Still dumb as a box of rocks eh nom? In 1988, they also said things like "gosh", "shucks", "darn" on tv because cuss words were illegal on public television. Never mind that the dominant news stations of today didn't even exist.

What the hell are you blabbering on about now? There is no such thing as an "American ideology". We fight like cats and dogs over religion and politics daily. Are you really this stupid? Rhetorical question.
