Do we treat our criminals too well or do we treat them inhumane?
Are we giving prisoners too many priviledges and making jail less of a punishment? Or are we violating their human rights by depriving them of these priviledges?

To me, if you commit a crime you should be punished for it. Jail is supposed to be a place that you don't want to go to but with people yelling "human rights!" everywhere, jail has become just a hotel for criminals. Criminals should be discouraged from commiting crimes by making jail a horrible place to be in. Side: Criminals are too privileged

It's easy to say that when you break the law, you give up your rights. But many criminals (corrupt businessmen aside) were never given basic rights to begin with. What about the ones who society did not provide for, either growing up or now? Side: They're being treated inhumane
Crime is never the answer no matter what conditions you were brought up in. I currently live in a third world country were poverty is high and police are corrupt but I see many people living their life morally and end up having good things come to them. Prison here is a different story and that's pretty much the only thing that discourages would-be criminals. They have up to 10 inmates in 1 cell with only 1 matress on the floor. You've gotta fight for it if you want to sleep comfortably. Food is of extremely poor quality and murders occur everyday. Prison in the states is daycare. I used to live in the Bay Area and big scary San Quintin isn't anything compared to what's down here. Maybe tough punishment will discourage those young teenagers who think it's cool to be a gangster. Side: Criminals are too privileged

Most of the time, criminals become more of a monster because of their time in prison then when they committed the crime. Even if they were a murderer. Imprisonment is not a bad idea, but whatever we're doing, we're doing it wrong. These people shouldn't, for any reason, have to live out a life sentence. We should be treating them during their imprisonment better so that they slowly turn into better human beings. Especially considering most 'criminals' now a days are just mere drug addicts... which shouldn't be incarcerated at all. Period. Side: They're being treated inhumane
Absolutely right. Prison provides 1st time offenders with all of the connections to become career crooks. The very fact that a person went to prison greatly reduces their ability to find a legal job, and thus increases the probability that they will earn money in illegal ways. Exactly. There's nothing humane and efficient about our imprisonment system. Though it likely will not change anytime soon, unfortunately. People who aren't incarcerated are more concerned with their jobs then the future jobs of people who are supposed to get out of jail a better person. Side: They're being treated inhumane
