Until we can cure homicidal, antisocial, rapists and murderers, all we can do is protect society by removing these individuals. I'm partial to the "three strikes" rule: A single murder might be an accident or a frame; send 'em to a shrink. Two separate murders might be a coincidence or someone making you look bad; send 'em to jail. But three juries convict you of three different murders and its obvious you cannot be rehabilitated or kept from doing harm. I don't believe this (or any other rule) should be set in stone--there's always the possibility of mitigating circumstances. But, it works as a rule-of-thumb. Side: Three strikes

We need to reduce the prison population and it's not like they are contributing to society and their genes should become an evolutionary dead end. I mean, kill them all and let God sort them out. That's his job anyway. We'll just say, "Here, you figure out what to do with this one. We don't want him. He doesn't play nice with others." Side: kill

The only problem with that, is often these people have already passed on their genes! The most recent data I could find quickly was that "In 1999 an estimated 721,500 State and Federal prisoners were parents to 1,498,800 children under age 18." That is crazy and sadly, too late to prevent the genes from being passed on. Plus, I personally believe that most of the crime is due to nurture, not nature. Side: thou shall not

What about starting afresh ,making laws that are fair to everyone, making one punishment,BE NICE--if you cant obey the laws, leave the island!--no you cant take this boat, start swimming!--you knew the rules, you broke the rules, now hit the ocean!..;)...it would also make that old vengance of "food for the fish" no longer a crime but a form of punishment...;) Side: Three strikes
Yes, i agree. Capital punishment must be imposed to the murderers and to drug traffickers. This punishment will give the society a warning that the rules, that government had made, will be obeyed and the punishment is imposed to those who go against them. Side: thou shall not
it's more about common sense once you look up on it. if you do life without parole 1. laws change all the time, with the death penalty, that guy is gone for good, but if you do life without parole and then all of a sudden a law changes, he could get parole every two years (yes, it did actually happen, and is still happening). 2. killers don't stop killing once put in jail, they kill other inmates (which could be innocent or just in there for stealing a fuckin' car) and can kill guards... and if they escape, O how the killing continues. 3. the cost for an appeal is the only cost that the death penalty carries... the cost for an appeal is basically just another method to try and prevent the death penalty. it should be determined by the crime committed, not that hard to change sentences guys, and way less expensive. and the rest are not based on common sense, but on just personal views. me? i'm not religious, so the whole "Thou Shall Not Kill" thing never works as an argument. in fact, i like the Satanic Golden rule much more "Do unto others as they have done unto you". eye for an eye basically. plus, i think child rapists should be executed on the second charge... fuck it and fuck them. As Mahatma Gandhi once said..."an eye for and eye only makes the whole world blind." No, capital punishment is barbaric and unnecessary. Thou shalt not Kill is a commandment I uphold in all matters. Executing a person has never been proved to be a deterrent or a help to anyone nor does it reduce the act of murder. Side: thou shall not
I agree with you. Lord knows we are blind enough. Although if I were faced with life in prison, I honestly think I would prefer death. I am not scared of death - I am scared of dying. The manner in which they die is cold and inhumane. Death might actually be the easier road in some cases. Dunno. Side: thou shall not
I think that capital punishment is not an excellent way of judgement as it goes against moral values and consciousness. If we accept capital punishment, it means that there is no difference between the murders and us as finally the judgement would be based on death. Human have no right to take life.... its only god who have that right. Furthermore, in case a person has been executed by error and finally proved to be innocent, who can tell me how to recover such mistake?? Side: thou shall not
es I agree with capital punishment, I believe that if you can do the crime you should do the time, no one should be able to walk free when there is a mourning family somewhere in the world, but that doesn't mean two wrongs doesn't make a right. If someone is murdered and the suspect is found that doesn't mean they should die too, they should serve time but they shouldn't die. because that means two families would be mourning and it's just not fair, There have been some cases where some people have faced death penalty on a crime they didn't even commit, It's all just not worth it. I do believe they should spend the rest of their life in prison, if all evidence is found. I have always believed that you will suffer more wasting 24 hours in a prison cell for 365 days a year for the rest of your life, then being put to death by being injected with a needle that will not painfully kill you, you will suffer more in a cell because you will have nothing to do but sit and think about all the wrong you've done and how you'd die to be back to the basics Side: thou shall not
