Do you believe in absolute truth? Why or why not?

I've been having conversations about this lately, and would be interested in hearing logical points on both sides of this question.

I do believe in absolute truth, but not absolutely. Although there are many things in our world that are absolute which involve mathematics, the sex of a human being, certain medical conditions, an infinite universe including absolutes, weights, measurements, currency and others, there are things within our scope of knowledge which are malleable and absolute definition may change over time by the discovery of something heretofore unknown and infinitesimal.

Yes. One plus one will always equal two, at least in this universe.

In the real world, no, almost never. For example, there can be no standardized "one" of any physical object, until we can verify that all are moleculary identical. Pretty nitpicky, but true :)

Side: Yes. Why:

Disclaimer:

1. I don't know at which stage (of a fetus' development) life begins.

2. I don't know if there's life after death (let alone a God).

If life begins early on, and you abort, and there's life after death, and you meet that fetus, do you say, "I'm sorry, I got cold feet and changed my mind, but it's a fucked up world. You wouldn't have liked it anyway?"

If life begins after birth, and there's no life after death, and your child hates life, do you say, "I'm sorry, I did the best I could. I did what I thought was right."

What does this have to do with absolute truth? We don't know what absolute truth is. We have to make decisions based on our past experiences and our interpretation of those experiences. We are always playing with an incomplete deck of cards. We make choices based on the information we have available to us at that specific point in time. If we could peek into the future and see the consequences of our actions, we would probably make very different choices than those we are making today.... and the world would be a different place.... and since I believe in the goodness of man, I would expect that world to be a better place.

NO! quote from Hunter S. Thompson/Gonzo journalist-If I'd written all the truth I knew for the past ten years, about 600 people - including me - would be rotting in prison cells from Rio to Seattle today. Absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity
